Thanks for all the responses guys. :bigthumb:

    18650 Insulator Rings - Redundant?

The *white* in the previous photo is a plastic insulator ring, here's a photo of it (from IMR Batteries) without shrink-wrap: So your vote would be to just add the additional insulator ring on top of the two levels of protection that already exist? I am starting to get the feeling that...

    18650 Insulator Rings - Redundant?

I noticed everyone seems to be using the peel-n-stick insulator rings (usually made from fish-paper). But I also noticed that a lot of 18650's (mine included) already have an insulator ring under the shrink-wrap. Seems kinda silly to be adding insulation on top of 2 layers of stock insulation...

In search of the illusive High-Torque, Low-Speed hub motor

OOPS. You were right Neptronix, (about just using the same system V and higher Kv with reduced performance) I just forgot to reduce throttle in the simulator. Doh! Here it is again corrected...

In search of the illusive High-Torque, Low-Speed hub motor

Good news: The QS motor sales-rep said they are willing to wind my motor to be ~6.7Kv. That's close enough to my originally desired specs...

In search of the illusive High-Torque, Low-Speed hub motor

Thanks for the suggestion, but not really keen on diving in that deep. I share that same :( thinking about it. lol. I like that idea. Especially because it means I have a lot of future un-tapped performance if I ever want to push it. Unfortunately (as shown in one of the simulator graphs...

In search of the illusive High-Torque, Low-Speed hub motor

Thanks for letting me know. (I noticed you ran a MAC in one of your builds) Thanks for the tip. I tried that in the simulator. But at 100A, even the low-voltage system isn't wanting much more than that. (not shown: but I gave the lower-voltage an extra digit of amps, and that didn't budge the...

In search of the illusive High-Torque, Low-Speed hub motor

Hey guys. I'm starting a project that is going to require a high-torque, low-speed motor because I'm running a ~30 inch diameter tire. To throw some numbers out, I'm looking for: ~100+ lb-ft of peak torque. (135 Nm) (90 lbs thrust) ~3000W of peak (motor) power. ~400 RPM (unloaded speed = ~35...

    Mini Boat

Thanks. I imagine a jet ski hull is an excellent starting point for a mini jet-boat. I've seen a few other mini jet boats made from Aluminum, which is much better for dragging across rocks than fiberglass. But I imagine there aren't that many people who plan on dragging their boats across rocks...

    Mini Boat

It's been a while since I've had an EV project, but I just completed my electric mini boat and thought I'd share it here. Story: I'd always been interested in mini boats ever since I had seen Paul Elkin's. His boat stuck with me for a few years, and then a friend of mine decided to build his...

    Chevy Spark EV

I almost purchased the Spark (non-electric), but ended up going w/ a Prius C hybrid. Since I have nowhere to charge, a Spark EV wasn't a great option for me. (If Chevy made a hybrid Spark, it would have been a harder decision) Anyhow, Very excited about the Chevy Spark EV. ... just wish I had a...

Lifetime $ costs: Tacoma vs Prius C vs Leaf vs Model S

I just spent a good deal of time putting together this e-mail and thought I'd post it here for anyone else to look at. This was an e-mail response to: "My Tacoma is cheaper to operate (daily and over it’s lifetime) will go (and has gone) more places than most Teslas. It’s been up and down the...

Ecotality, Maker of BLINK Chargers Files Bankruptcy

"Ecotality Inc. (ECTY:US), a maker of charging stations for electric cars, filed for bankruptcy with plans to sell itself at a court-supervised auction to pay off debt. Kickr - west coast meetup 12/24 - 1/02

Or better yet: Just have the kick-to-speed, and use the "sensing strap" only to apply brakes. I was never any good at taking a foot off the board to brake. But every longboarder knows how to take a foot off to accelerate. :)

    Kickr - west coast meetup 12/24 - 1/02

Pretty neat concept. I couldn't tell how speed was controlled, but i think it would be ideal if it acted as a "cruise-control" for longboards. Kick to desired speed. Motor holds that speed. But then I would also like to see: - some sort of brake implemented. - a way to "cock" the drive-wheel...

    HobbyKing battery horrible RMA process

Well then my advice to you: Don't pick up anything with a cell voltage difference of greater than .020V. Sift through their crap and leave the true crap for the rest of us that aren't close enough to sift through it.

    HobbyKing battery horrible RMA process

I figured I'd chime in. A while back I ordered about 110 of the Turnigy LiPo batteries from HK. Of those, I tested and returned about 40 of them. That's a 36.4% defect-rate. I cycle-tested each pack 3 times. I had 8 hyperion-chargers running at the same time and it was still a huge time-sink...

    Prius C - 51.6 MPG

    Prius C - 51.6 MPG

mostly city. (with the exception of my latest road-trip to Yosemite) I cruise on the freeways at 65 mph. So far, I've been seeing about 54 mpg in the city, and 48 mpg on the highway (65 mph driving). And just FYI: the "C" in "Prius C" is for "city". I started a Fuelly account...

    Prius C - 51.6 MPG

My wife and I purchased a 2013 Prius C - level II. We just filled-up for the first time since purchasing, and did: 411 miles (Approx 75% city-miles, 25% highway-miles) w/ 7.968 gallons = 51.6 MPG. We would have gone for a Nissan Leaf, but have no means of plugging it in at home. Anyhow, we...
