Arduino BMS Shield using TI BQ76PL536A (Update 9/16)

Looks vary good, I pulled an Arduino mega (atmega2560) out of my drawer and thought it would do nicely. Then found this thread, looks like it'll save me a lot of work :P Edit: Though I em looking at the Atmel ATA6870 as it's a cheaper chip and requires less external components.

I do stress calculations for gear size. Close to what I'd be building. Not ideal though, with case hardened 8620 gears one could be made about 1/3 the weight, and the correct gear ratio.

Well, I found a good deal on Chinese mini lathe that's already converted, but if I don't get that then I'll do the conversion myself when I get the funds. A lathe is actually a far more versatile tool then a mill, as you can do a far amount of milling on one. PM sent.

Well an electronic shifter is probably the easiest anyway, so automatic shifting is easy after that, just a little atmega that cuts motor power for a split second while shifting (no clutch). I'll sketch up a 2-speed box for that golden motor. Done work for the summer, and not starting school...

A multi speed gearbox would be more complicated. But definitely possible. It'd probably be electric shift, it could even me automatic.

    Custom gearboxs

I'm under the impression that the shaft on most rc motors is removable, if that's so then a new shaft could be made. For a 9:1 gearbox A 14mm shaft with a 12tooth mod1 gear machined in the middle would be machined down to whatever the motor needs. output shaft would start life as a 38mm shaft...

    Custom gearboxs

Well, I got sick of SolidWorks, so I sketched this quick. This would be a 10:1 box, input and output sides milled from 1/2" aluminum, the rest 1/4" aluminum, with some 10x26x8mm bearings. Hobby king has a new motor "Turnigy RotoMax 150cc" good for a real 12hp, that size of gear should handle...

I'm buying the lathe for a hobby, making up the cost is a plus. Mudeling my way through SolidWorks (I grew up on CadKey, totally different). :)

    Custom gearboxs

I do have a preference toward gears vs. chains or timing belts. They have a slightly higher efficiency, especially if oil bath, a little more reliable, and lighter (though not that significant when compared to the weight of the batteries). I'll make some cad drawings of a 3 speed gearbox when I...

    Custom gearboxs

Well, a decent small lathe, with the tools needed to make spur gears and machine cases would be about $1750. Within my budget. I may add a rotary table to that though. The only thing I'd need to buy is bearings. :)

    Custom gearboxs

Well, I was thinking reduction only, but they would be made to order, so a multi speed box is possible. Edit: I could probably manage a sequential gearbox.

Well, I'd have to build a prototype first. But maby $250

Ouch- Aluminium bar breaks at 55Kph...

It sound like you're on the mend, thankfully nothing broke that can't be fixed. Ya, steal is the way to go, steal is a lot more springy, and will flex with-ought damage, aluminum won't.

    Custom gearboxs

I figured this was a good place to ask. Is there any interest in a high quality gearbox for using rc motors? I was figuring a 1:10 oil filled gearbox would do for most larger motors. gears are more efficient then a belt (especially oil bath), and inside a box they would be well protected and...

how much are you saving using your ebike?

Are you trying to say Canadians pay more for gas? We pay a bought $1.25 a litter, that's $4.70 a gallon. From what I can find you pay a bought $4 a gallon.

I've only had my license for a couple months, and never bean insured before. We get screwed up hear.

puncture proof, airless tire, .. almost there.

They keep trying airless tires, but I doubt it'll ever work In a normal tire the howl thing acts as a shock, the airless ones just don't provide the same ride.

how much are you saving using your ebike?

My e-bike isn't built yet, but I do bike 50km a week. Finished e-bike will be a bought $1500 Bus tickets when the weather is bad (worst case scenario is 1 out of 3 days) $300 Replacement batteries every two years $200 a year so $2000 for the first year Cheap motorcycle $1500 insurance $3500 gas...

    3hp bike

ya, unfortunately I can only afford to buy one, but I have the tools to test it, when that happens I'll post all that I can, before and after re-wiring. Well, my plan is to buy the Turnigy RotoMax 100cc, re-wind it for 88kv. Then run it at the voltage I need. 6 to 10 cell, 2 to 3.3kw, assuming...

    3hp bike

Your right, I will do that. Anyway, from what I can find there's no way to make the CA120-70 as efishent as the smaller one. Even after removing the skirt bearing and re-winding, it'll still have 3x the losses of the RotoMax 100cc. Thanks.

    3hp bike

At some point I want to up the power (when I can afford it) what I wanted to know was if I re-wound dlrk would that solve the high intrinsic loses. But I'll probably have to actually test that to find out. Also isn't electrical rpm 'rpm/magnet pole pairs' ? That would mean 175hz I'm no expert...

    3hp bike

As I understand it normal winding: http://www.southernsoaringclub.org.za/BM-motor-2-star.JPG uses every pole, for this one that means 24. DLRK winding doubles up: http://skymydestination.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/12N-14P-DLRK-DELTA.jpg so the motor acts like a 12 pole (you'd have to change...

    3hp bike

Well, I've have too much free time, I started designing a new bike. The funds won't come through until mid September, but I can fantasize for now. My current plan is to get a large rc motor, re-wind it, and run it at low rpm (<3k) then chain drive right off the motor to a sprocket mounted on...
