They also may want to bulk up their patent portfolios.

    Dumb Question

How can I safely solder a Dean connector to my battery? I don't want to trust just my steady hand to keep the red and black wires from touching each other whilst soldering. Can I put a small piece of rummer or plastic between them? Mercí

A123 Systems: 'No assurance' it can continue to operate

A123 has never turned a profit and sells an inferior defective product in a weak industry. There are better investment opportunities out there.

A123 Systems: 'No assurance' it can continue to operate

Richard Muller's book on energy convinces me that cars powered primarily via lithium battery will not be economical in the foreseeable future, so you could say that your tax money was wasted long ago.

So I got pulled over by the police today.

Both US and UK are modern police states, but the US police have a more pronounced military style and attitude than do their UK counterparts. FYI, US citizens are also not required to carry ID. Cops still always ask for it, as they must conduct warrant checks on everyone (civilians are all...

How to NOT jump a gap with your e-MTB - FAIL (video)

I only use this backpack for my batteries: http://www.boblbee.com/us/artiklar/kategorilfullpost.asp?ID=616&flik=219&acc= Pricey, but protects my back well... and the batteries too.

    DH Frame Suggestions

Intense M6 and M9 have dropouts well suited to modification. I believe the Cove Shocker does as well. Specialized Status has 10x135 dropouts which are ready to accept a 135mm hubmotor. More of a freeride than DH bike, but it's easy.

Which is quieter, MAC or BMC?

Never seen a MAC in use nor MAC gears in my BMC, but I can say that the BMC motors which I use are quite quiet indeed.

Sorry to break up the Marxist love fest, but inequality doesn't cause violent revolutions, changes for the worse in people's everyday lives do. The closest the US has come to revolution in the 20th century was probably during the Great Depression. Why did everyone choose that particular time...

The average income in China is $8,382 - and that's adjusted for purchasing power (and thus gives the highest possible estimate of Chinese income). For reference: This puts China right between Belize and Ecuador. This is one sixth the average income in the US. China has gone from the most...

A123 to be acquired by Wanxiang Group

I'm personally thrilled to see any government sponsored company go bankrupt for any reason. A123 is a crap company. We love their batteries, but their tech is behind the times (NMC) and their quality control is obviously a disaster. Good riddance.

A123 Systems Inc., a struggling, U.S. government-backed manufacturer of advanced batteries for electric vehicles, is turning to one of China's largest auto parts makers for a bailout. The Waltham, Mass.-based company said on Wednesday that Wanxiang Group Corp., a Chinese conglomerate, agreed to...

    Best production offroad ebike?

Ego kit comes with a $1k NMC battery. Of course, the kit isn't for everyone. But for those looking for the best performance off road, it's far better than the competing, more expensive options. Now about that noise... : (

    Best production offroad ebike?

Ehhh.......... I don't know..... Sure, it's not a frame, but it's not exactly a jerry-rigged kit. It is "mass produced" - at least relative to the ebike industry.... It's also like five hundred zillion times better than anything else out there when it comes to off road riding. It's also a bit...

For production, I'd put the Ego Kit ahead of Stealth. In terms of pure performance they do not appear to be even remotely close. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8R-AK1qAmA

Lipo pack / controller in backpack ?

Not to be too negative, but LiCo in a backpack sounds suicidal to me. I keep my battery in my backpack, but it's LiFe.
