Do DD hub motors wear out?

Thank you...I appreciate the pointers. Voltron - my old (8 years) battery is 36v & 15Ah with LiFePO4 cells in 10S: 36*15= 540 watt hours. My new battery is a Samsung Lithium NCM Battery (Li[NiMnCo]O2 12 AH Cylindrical Cells) in 14S: 52*12= 624 Wh. I have no info about the BMS for either...

Do DD hub motors wear out?

I have a FalconEV 36V 'Electric Bull" motor purchased new in 2012 with more than 16,000 miles. The controller, CA, and throttle are from Grin Tech. Last week I purchased a new battery, which I have just finished breaking in per instructions. Although the new battery makes the bike clearly faster...

80 Day Race Open Source Design

Is there a similar but simpler and cheaper race here in North America? Maybe across US Highway 50? I always get a kick out of driving past this sign near Sacramento...

Solar charging for Bosch e-bike batteries

Maybe the folks at SolarWind can help you. http://www.ridethesolarwind.be/en/

Charging your battery with a bicycle electric generator

Don't feel bad. When I was 4 or 5 years old I asked my dad how the radio in the car worked, because I didn't see an chord going back to the house to be plugged in.

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

BTW, I wanted to brag on my BiL a little bit. He has now been commuting to and from work on the bike 20 miles a day a minimum of 5 days a week for 33 months. That's a minimum of 100 miles a week for a total of well over 13,000 miles, maybe as much as 14,000 miles since he often rides into town...

Charging your battery with a bicycle electric generator

As others have mentioned, you could go solar, like this 75 watt panel. NOT like this one, though...

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

More good news... We used Sheldon Brown's suggested technique (http://sheldonbrown.com/freewheels.html#lube) to lube the freewheel using a teaspoon or so of 75w gear oil. The oil wicked right into the fw, which is engaging perfectly and now running nice and quiet. Afterward, my BiL...

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

UPDATE - We alternated blasting a whole can of WD-40 and compressed air between the inner and outer fw walls until the juice came out clear as water, and now the fw is working correctly. What should we lube it with?

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

Yes, the fw looks exactly like that one. This weekend we will make a "pin wrench" to try to engage those two small round recesses. This bicycle is his only means of transportation, so we are willing to go to fairly extreme lengths to not damage the wheel. The gears are all in good shape, so all...

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

The freewheel in question has no recessed notches or lockring splines at all. It just threads on.

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

Thanks guys! I went over the points you raised with my brother-in-law, and we are going to more closely examine his bike tonight. I also ordered a chain whip to remove his freewheel and gear stack. Will post results here. Thanks again and stay safe tonight. Happy New Year!

Thanks amberwolf, I'll show him this thread tomorrow.

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

Thanks Dan...great idea! My BiL remarked tonight that he doesn't oil the chain, preferring the heavy m/c chain wax, so that is a real possibility. Just standard engine oil? Oh, and I found what looks like it's from his bike, though I haven't yet looked for a source...

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

Thanks...and yes, it's a "Falcon EV rear hub motor". We will try to un-thread the complete freewheel, though as you suggest, getting replacements may be problematical. Any chance of simply replacing the freewheel with a generic unit? Thanks again.

Motor works fine but pedaling goes nowhere

My brother-in-law has ridden his Falcon EV rear hub motor bike 10 miles to and from work for three years without issue. The motor, battery, controller, etc., have been trouble free, but all of the sudden when he pedals the bike goes nowhere. The pedals and rear cassette just spin around as if...

    Ebike Triangle frame battery pack.

I bought their "large" size, which arrived yesterday. Alas, it's too narrow to take my Ping 36V15AH battery, so I plan to return it. I may end up making my own.

    OutriderUSA reviews?

Good point, and after reading some design pages and your build thread, I think this is something I could do. Thanks...I'll explore that option. :D

    OutriderUSA reviews?

Yes, there is a Zhejiang, China company called Outrider that makes small-wattage hub motors and conversion kits. Outrider USA is unrelated to the Chinese company. Thx!

Anybody able to point me to actual customer reviews of OutriderUSA's line of e-trikes? Or better yet, anyone have experience with them?
