The battery and my heat problem

Thanks for all the help. I was using 16gauge wire. So now I will switch to 12. Could the wire size be causing the controller to heat up as well?

The battery and my heat problem

I have a volt meter. Not sure if it has a watt option. Maybe these pics will help clarify.

The battery and my heat problem

I have a 48V 15Ah sunthing battery. The motor and controller came from EM3EV. The problem I am having is the heat. The controller gets so hot that I can't touch it. I just burned through my second plug on the battery. What is causing this problem? I think the motor size fits the battery...

Replacing a battery plug with Anderson power poles

So if the voltmeter reads +53.2 volts then I know that the red pointer on the voltmeter is on the Live wire of the battery and the black pointer is on the battery's neutral. However if the Volts on the meter read negative, then I know I have it reversed. Is that right?

Replacing a battery plug with Anderson power poles

Thank you for that confirmation. One last request, in the picture the Red wire is the Live wire and the Blue wire is the Neutral. Am I correct?

Replacing a battery plug with Anderson power poles

I have this battery in the picture and I'm having some issues with the male prongs on the battery plug. The plugs won't fit into the female plug, there seems to be some metal chards on the male preventing insertion. Anyway I'm going to have to change this plug, but I was wondering if I could...

Is there a switch to be used for...

I did a little research on connecting the three batteries in parallel. I'm going to use method 3 found in the following link: http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html I want to verify if this is correct before I do it. I also read some warnings about connecting in parallel batteries of...

Is there a switch to be used for...

So I have those sunthing batteries that have the black three prong female chord coming out of battery. Can I hook the batteries up in parallel without cutting that chord? Can somebody walk me through it?

Is there a switch to be used for...

So I've got 3 15ah batteries that I'm pulling in a small trailer now. I've got a CA to gauge how much juice i've used and how much remains. What I'm trying to figure out is how I can run three separate red and black wires from each of the batteries to my handle bars so I can switch between...

Idiot user learns rule #1 on charging batteries

Today I was in Starbucks reading while my 48V 15Ah battery was charging. I have a nice canvas bag that the battery fits in nicely along with the charger. I wedged the charger into the bag vertically so that the top of the charger was at the end of the battery near where wires are. (I realize I...

Using my 48V 15ah battery to run a CPAP machine

I have a CPAP for sleep apnia and want to use my 48V 15ah battery to run it. I think I need an inverter. What should I be looking for on the CPAP to tell me which inverter to get? And how long will my battery run the machine from full charge? The markings on the CPAP transformer that plugs...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

Today I went on a long ride. I put a trailer on the bike and put some gear in the trailer. I wanted to ride until the battery turned off. I got 24 miles, the last 5 miles were wide open throttle. The battery turned off at 14.69 Ah and 690 Whrs. So I guess I didn' quite get that 700 Whrs out...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I don't think I was being accurate on the amount of battery usage I was using. For some reason, can't figure out why or how, my CA stand alone doesn't clear out to zero even though I disconnect that battery when charging it. When I hook the battery back up the CA shows the Watt hours as being...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I took it out the other day and rode about 10 miles with some pedalling. When I was done the CA showed I'd used 472 Ah. That is 2/3 of the 720 Ah I'm suppose to have, but only rode half of the 20 miles I was expecting. The other strange thing was that when I was done with the ride the battery...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I haven't fully discharged the battery yet. Since it took me quite a while to get my bike up and running, I was putting it on a light bulb and repeatedly discharging slightly and then letting it charge overnight, as was Mr. Dogman's advice. It shows over 59 volts when fully charged. I will...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

Thank you Mr. Dogman for that piece of advice. Went to AutoZone and purchased two 14mm lug nuts. They worked great. The stripped axle seemed to work great with the new lug nuts Got it up and running. Today I rode about 4 miles and then put it back on the charger. When I started it was at...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

Just returned from a trip and now I"m back to the bike project. Managed to find some steel forks on my trip so I've got some new direction. If I buy a new motor then I won't be using the one I bought correct? If that is the case why not try and change the axle on the one I've got and if I...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I'm wondering if I will ever get my bike built. After my forks failed I began disassembling my wheel. The nuts at been secured on the axle very firmly. Even though the wheel was no longer connected to the forks, those nuts were still tight. In an effort to loosen them (it was very difficut...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I still haven't been able to complete the 3-6 light cycles and am anxious to get those done. The battery now is reading 60v when I take it off the charger, but then drops to about 58.5v after being off the charger for a while. TORQUE BARS: I saw the ones at ebike, but don't think they will fit...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I was trying to figure out how soon I needed to get torque bars put on. I recall the dogman's first ride and his subsequent crash, but if my memory is right it was due to not tightening down the bolt tight enough, not a missing torque bar. I was thinking that I should get torque bars before I...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

Left the battery on the charger for 3 days straight. When I took it off tonight it showed 59.9 v. I got the motor running and plugged it in and rant the motor till the battery was down to 53.6 and put it back on the charger. For these initial cycles how low should I allow the voltage to drop...

    Sunthing battery 48V 15Ah

I'm sorry, I wan't very clear. It was a 6 circuit plug that I cut off the wire coming out of the EM3 motor. I needed to put on another washer and it wouldn't fit over the clip. So the sunthing battery has been on the charger 24/7 for two days and still only registers at 56.4 V. I haven't got...
