Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Very cool Warren. I had absolutely zero awareness or knowledge about F1. Those are some very cool bikes and the racing sounds insane. Yes, I think crash helmets and pads would have been a good idea. I haven't seen Nick's name mentioned in relation to Respect Cycles, but I agree, the...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Warren - I forgot to mention that Respect has two main offices. One in Santa Barbara and one in... Charlottesville, Va.

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

ETrike - I forgot to mention that, yes, the Bafang G01 and the 20A controller are on the simulator. The 15A controller is not but one can model a "custom" controller, inputting 15A and other info that would be a guess for me. I used a 48V 9ah LiFe battery in the simulation. Here is a link to...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Thanks for your opinion on the CA eTrike. It seems like money well spent, especially if I make the move to electrify another bike I have that has 700c wheels and just swap the battery and controller between the two bikes. I assume the CA would work with the two different set ups. LewTwo...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Okay, bike has been ordered. I ordered a Respect Cycles Mini Velo V3 direct from their site as a pre-order for $349 with free shipping and no tax. Their website isn't great for getting good profile images of the bike, but Performance Bike also sells the bike and gives a better view so I linked...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

I took another look at that article I linked and also looked at the Echo and Ego battery packs at Home Depot yesterday. The author, Karl, preferred Ego packs but I must say that the Echo packs look like good quality to me, as well. I didn't view the Ego promo video that disses the Echo packs...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Hey - thanks to all for the comments and I really don't mind the dust up over Luna working it's way into this thread, but I certainly understand that many have heard enough about it. I appreciate hearing from both sides on it and in the end I think that I would be comfortable buying the battery...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Thanks again electrocats and nutspecial. Sounds like there are some differing opinions with regard to Luna. Yes, I would much prefer to get battery and controller as a set. Would like to get the battery from the same vendor, too, but I can't seem to find the right combo. I sent an email...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Thanks for your thoughts eTrike and electrocats. I am sure that powerful motor in a 16" rim could handle about anything - must have been a fun trip to Seattle. I had not considered a friction motor. I looked into it a bit and found a very interesting option, not quite available...

Single Speed Mini-Velo Ebike - Advice Please

Hello all. I’ve come close to building my first ebike before but ended up not going forward - got cold feet on the two speed motor as it seemed more experimental than I wanted to go with. But this time, I have a fun little project that I am ready to move on, if it can come together as I hope...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

I can't recall if anyone has set it up as a front hub on the thread yet, my considerations would be; -Getting a torque arm may be a good idea. -Probably limited to rim brakes as the dropout is 100mm or 110 for discs (which excludes a lot of conventional disc bikes) -You need to make sure the...

Very nice d8veh. That looks like a clean installation. It is good to hear how the system is evolving with controller upgrades.

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Well, my project has stalled. You may recall that I was very intrigued with the ida of building a single speed bike with the XD motor in the rear hub. I figured out what I wanted in terms of gearing etc. but my problem is with budget. I wanted to build this up on a new frame set, which I knew...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

This is part of an email from yona: Is your ebike wheelsize is 27.5''? or similar size ? for USA market we usually do 32km/h(max) ,if this speed suitable for you?because our motor speed can be made according to your needs. Kind regards, Yona

Thank you menvert, d8veh and ktmede for the info on brake cut-off alternatives. I should be able to find a good simple solution.

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Menvert - I think the brake cutoff would be prudent and I doubt that I would regret getting it. I could just run the extra wire along with the cable to the LCD. But is it tricky to wire? Patching in another 5V wire sounds like you know what you were doing, but I would not have a clue.

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Yes - that would be easier and cheaper to do than rebuilding the back wheel. I could have a climbing gear and a cruising gear, just like the XD.

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Thank you d8veh, that is very reassuring. I have poured over the data for the 36V motor and read through the first hand accounts in this thread, but going one speed I will be pretty committed - cant's just grab a lower gear and grind up the hill. I think it will work with the single speed and...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

I agree spinningmagents - trying to figure this out is not easy. I am not a web designer or publicist but I feel that I could make a number of recommendations to help Xiongda explain their product to those who would love to buy it. If not for the great advice in this forum I would have no idea...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Thank you for the good info menvert. I think that I will order the thumb type accelerator that you prefer but I might try riding the bike without it for a while. I always imagined that I would primarily use the accelerator but if I can change PAS levels on the fly might see how that goes. I...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

I have been in contact with Yona and I am getting close to ordering. I have a couple of questions on which I thought I might get more complete answers from you folks. The order sheet says 48V 250W 32km/h (speed for 27.5" wheel) but I assume that the 250W is nominal and this is the motor we...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

Thank you all for the excellent advice. I learned to solder when I was 13 years old but never applied that skill - now I will have an opportunity. Spinningmagnets' succinct tutorial is a marvel of clear, concise communication. Once upon a time I did all of the wrenching on my bikes, did a...

    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

I have e-mailed an inquiry to yona to start the ordering process. But in the meantime, I was wondering, how difficult is it to install this kit? Does Xiongda provide any instructions with the kit? I'll have a wheel builder build the hub into the wheel for $50 plus parts. And I assume that...
