Help required!! First build - Trampa E mountain board

Not sure when vescs got a bad rap for mountain boards. I've driven single drive trampa mountain board without any issues. Granted i doubled down on aluminum heatsinks

    Newbie motor questions

for practical purpose think kv# corresponds to the ideal rpm at which the motor is at its best. lower kv motors perform best at lower speeds. for gearing; Mountain-board wheels are generous with the amount of space you have for gear ratios of various sizes, there is bigger space restriction for...

I added a latch by riveting it on a small L bracket and attaching it to the front. there are two hinges in the back. The bottom is plywood. I really don't want to drill anymore holes in the deck then absolutely necessary, so I used the holes for the rear bindings to attach both the battery...

    Mountain Board 2.0

I didn't have an enclosure in mind and I wasn't keen on stinking up my home with carbon fiber raisin, so I tried my luck with building my own out of plastic. I had some scrap plastic from lids of containers and such and thought I could reshape it if I applied some heat.. sure enough it was...

    motor choice

I personally place more premium on the torque of motors. Maybe a more experienced user can chime in but i think 280kv motor might not hit its optimal performance with 6s lipos.

    Mountain Board 2.0

I totally agree. though I will say that after adding a small heat sinks to VESC I managed to get more torque out of it. Now, after doubling down on cooling and and attaching comically large heatsinks I can confirm that my VESC is almost as powerfull as my 6s hobbyking ESC up the hills!

most recent improvement is a new enclosure, graciously sent over by Puffin. Thanks dude this sleek new enclosure is probably as small as it gets for GTB based controllers. Honestly after haphazardly transplanting the controller guts 3 times into different controller husks im impressed that it...

Hi everyone I Just updated updated a few bits on my board and I thought I'd share:

That ESC cover is a great idea, especially with the potential air scoops. are the two buttons on the battery cover to toggle the battery indicators?

Putting the Junk in the trunk

LOL yeah not the best example in the picture. As for weight distribution, I never even thought about 180 degrees flips. I guess I spend most of my time just trying to remain upright on the board. but hey maybe it can do better wheelies?

Putting the Junk in the trunk

I've been looking at many of the builds here for inspiration for quite some time. It seems that all the best Mountain boards builds have the same thing in common; their battery box is right in the middle of the board, top side. The list of advantages to this is probably long: Easy access...

    DIY Trampa long 35 E-MTB | Dual VESC | Sensored EMAX GT5345

As someone who made his mount from nothing but a small drill press, some files and a dremel tool, I can appreciate the professional job. Looks indistinguishable from a proper CNC job!

quick battery question for the wise and expirienced

That doesn't sound bad to me. Until my other VESC arrives, I want to connect my 4 packs of 4s 30C 5000mah in 2 pairs and run the pairs parallel. so 3 of the 4 packs are 30C and one special snowflake is 30-40C. based on the replies (thanks btw) I seems that whatever abnormalities the 30-40C pack...

quick battery question for the wise and expirienced

hi I have a question. I just got a new turnigy lipo 5000mah 4s pack. What I didn't notice was that it is rated 30-40 c, unlike my other 4s lipos, which are just 30C. is it safe to connect the two in series? would they play nice together? or will fire and carnage ensue?

How do I choose the correct ESC for my electric longboard?

I think that if you get a motor that is around 192 kv, you will future- proof your board, in case you'll want to upgrade to 12s lipos in the future, granted that the motor is back-orderd at hobbyking right now

2 VESCs dead in 1 week?

Im far from an expert on the matter, but I also noticed that my single drive 8s VESC setup cannot do hills. the oddest part is how my 6s setup with a hobbyking 150a ESC could, even with reduced gear ratio!

    Mountain Board 2.0

I just uploaded my first test drive: https://youtu.be/5LrjnknR6Iw there was a hill at the end that the board could not overcome. the strange thing is that I used to be able to make that same hill on a board that had the same motor, wheels, and only 6s lipos and a hobbyking 150A ESC, as well as...

    A few electrical/motor questions

Im a big fan of using smaller packs (3s lipos) series. smaller packs are often cheaper, and if a few cells go bad in a pack, you won't end throwing away a costly 6s battery, only 3s at best. But the most important reason for me is shipping! which gets all kinds of restrictive if you buy larger...

    Mountain Board 2.0

This is an ongoing project. Future improvement will include: a better enclosure for the batteries, made of something other then plastic taper ware An addition of another motor + VESC, for a dual drive. (managed to fry 1 VESC immediately upon plugging it in for the first time, so now I only have...

    Mountain Board 2.0

The remote that I use to control the thing is in its 3rd reincarnation. I tried to make a better enclosure for the GT2B. the wooden enclosure looked comically large and fugly, so I opted for some plexiglass instead. though its now arguably less dorky looking, and has smaller form-factor it does...
