    Destroying motor by demagnetization

It is also possible to use some complex tricks with individual motor wires and capacitors to demag individual magnets and turn the energy into current. Several supposed perpetual motion gadgets on youtube abuse this ... the video makers never want to talk about how the motors they abused...

    Destroying motor by demagnetization

You can also use a hammer strike to magnetize ... it's an old trick. Point a two foot metal rod at magnetic north, and hit the south end repeatedly with a big hammer. After several minutes of this, a lot of the atoms in the rod will re-arrange themselves in N-S order, and the rod will now pick...

lipo fire proof box :P filled with minaral oil

The oil probably helps prevent atmospheric Oxygen from getting at the batteries. Drowning in diesel fuel is the proper way to put out light metal ( Sodium, Lithium, Magnesium ) fires. Water just makes them burn faster ( the metal can actually rob Oxygen from H2O when burning ). The resulting...

rude road bikers (ie lycra"s or clown shirts etc)

Every group has its percentage of a-holes ... bicyclists are no exception. Just point and larf at them.

I need a pedelec because the police are going crazy

Nope ... that's just so 19th Century ... Seriously, they can't protect you. They can only, at best, arrest the guilty afterwards. I'm going to drop out of this one, as it is starting to veer out of e-bike territory fast.

I need a pedelec because the police are going crazy

Being unusual gets you attention. Cops, when you get their attention, think "Is he breaking a law or causing trouble?" It's their job to do that.

I need a pedelec because the police are going crazy

People were cutting you slack as a gaijin ... they will do that, to a point. Talk to a long term resident. If you aren't part of the group ( and there are all sorts of groups ), you are nothing. If you want to be part of the group, you have to conform. A foriegner gets cut some slack, the same...

I need a pedelec because the police are going crazy

It's just Japan. The nail that sticks up will be hammered down and made to conform. E-bikes are unusual, so ...

    Need a low-comsumption tractor. Don't want speed

You can get a wheeled brushed motor, controller, and thumb throttle for about $325 or so here: http://www.werelectrified.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=25 There are a bunch of other vendors as well, like Justin at ebikes.ca, etc. ...

    Need a low-comsumption tractor. Don't want speed

A bit more noise, yes. A controller on a brushed motor allows you to gradually add power with a thumb or a twist throttle. Replacing it with a simple knife switch means you have two speeds: Off and full steam ahead. Wiring the batteries to 36V means connecting all three in a string, POS to NEG...

    Need a low-comsumption tractor. Don't want speed

Crystalite 408, either front or rear hub ( your option ) and a 36V pedalec controller ( avoid immediate start, if the hall sensors go, you are screwed ). Or get even simpler and do a DC brushed Clyte ( controller optional, you can fake it with a large knife switch ... be sure to hold on ). DC...

I need a pedelec because the police are going crazy

It's Japan. Blaming the group for a bad act by an individual is a cultural norm there. It would be unthinkable for them not to. The reason for the 100% conviction rate is that once you get arrested in Japan, you are screwed ... people assume you are a criminal, you can no longer get a good job...

Mounting your battery, Center of Gravity.

The lower the better. Putting one heavy battery in a panier is better then putting it on the rack, even if it is unbalanced.

    E-Cumbent Vision R40: 80v*30a, Xlyt 404, 20", C7220PF

Some of the more spendy house light switches do use mercury capsules to do the switching ... mercury doesn't erode from sparks. This would make them unsuitable for use on anything that moves about. One good bump, or a steep turn will cause them to switch on or off. Try a cheaper switch. Test...

Noob help with hub motor (brushless controller needed)

It ain't a c'lyte, but the rest of the info is correct. A 20A c'lyte controller will probably work though. He will need to experiment to learn what order the hall sensors go in ... or get a pedelec sensor and ignore the problem.

    New member; questions

Charge it up. Then unplug it completely. Always recharge an SLA immediately after use. If you have unused SLAs laying around, you should charge them once every few months. Haven't a clue about the extra P position on the switch. You should be able to remove the key in the off position. Spray...

    $170 dollar spokes .....

Short spokes are more fragile due to torque loading. Since you cannot do a cross three wheel build with a small rim and a big hub, you have all the spokes getting torque applied to the sides of the spoke, instead of up and down its length. weight + bump in road + torque against side of spoke =...

    What would you recommend?

You can buy heinzmanns in Germany: http://www.estelle.de/e/motoren.asp The geared Heinzmanns will be more efficient ... Crystalyte 530x motors will be faster and more powerful, but at a cost of high Ah usage. C'lyte 40x motors would be a bit more efficient, but the 408 and 4011 motors required...

    Interesting Range results!!!

Yep ... LiFePO4 will go all they way to the end without any real sag. My ping pack starts at 40V, and will go all the way down to about 30V before the BMS shuts them down ... and will have put out 16.5 AH total. The drop from 33V to 30V is steep and damned fast. LiFePO4 will dump its rated...

    $170 dollar spokes .....

Link: my 'bent has no suspension ... and I commute with it. Commuting will reveal ANY weakness in a bike. The radial factory c'lyte spokes and rim were apparently made of "anti-metal" ... the spokes went within a month. A new set of Justin's went on ... and then the c'lyte rim started to come...

    $170 dollar spokes .....

I'm rather heavy. I ordered a set of top quality 13s for the Heinzmann from Justin at ebikes.ca, and started breaking the damned things immediately at the nipples. The 13mm ebikes.ca radial laced spokes on the c'lyte lasted longer, but the original c'lyte rim came apart. The c'lyte is on my...

    $170 dollar spokes .....

1/8" diameter, huge nipples, custom cut stainless for a 20" cross once wheel. An extra nine spares for each side. I think these things were originally made for motorcycles. $170 from hiwheel.com. Ouch ... but done. I had to drill out both the hub and the Rhyno-lite rim to make this mess fit...

My geared Heinzmann was more efficient than the gearless c'lyte 405 it replaced. Brushless does not always mean better.
