AT-One electric inline skates (quick update Dec 2020)

hey Vanarian, I wondered where you would be in your build and came to see your post. that's some nice ideas and renders on your dec 2020 update. Hope you can prototype these because I want to see some videos of it. in 2021 I will be coming back to building electric inlines, but going for a...

What is the best personal electric transportation?

For that kind of distance and road, it might really be better to get a small wheel ebike. if money is not a problem, there's the brompton electric. 16 inches wheels and the smallest fold with a lot of cool accessories to make your life easier. Not lightweight though, but it rolls when folded...

VESC suddenly cutting and resetting during acceleration

Ok, I couldn`t find anything on the internet neither on the forum about this particular issue. Whats happening: When there's no load on the motor (ie wheels up in the air) and you try to go full throttle or even just around 60~70% the vesc freezes, blink the red LED 3 times and resets, after 3...

Alibaba 50 dollars VESC worth it?

Any news on the case? I'm about to buy new VESCs and would like to know if the issue got resolved before buying. thank you.

Alibaba 50 dollars VESC worth it?

@mccloed can you post here the link where you bought that VESC? so we can try same vendor or avoid it if something goes wrong.

BMS integrated in the charging brick - nice or stupid idea?

What would be a good voltage per cell to monitor IF we don't have the BMS with the battery? I've been using 3.3V to cutoff. So in a 4S battery would cutoff at 13.2V. So far so good, but I don't want to test hundreds of times to see if something will go wrong. I agree that a BMS inside adds this...

BMS integrated in the charging brick - nice or stupid idea?

Didn't know BMS would require to be plugged in a specific order, I mean, they are designed to be soldered to the battery. even then, It might be worth lets say to put a 9-pin JST and a 2 wire coaxial plug that already comes with the bricks usually.

BMS integrated in the charging brick - nice or stupid idea?

Not really, RC chargers are programmable. You have to input how many cells, how many amps, balancing or quick charging etc. You have to carry the brick AND the charger. What I'm asking is what if you get a true plug and play solution for your specific project. Just plug in the wall and into...

Using a mosfet as a switch?

Anyone doing these and selling them? want to avoid messing with ordering all the parts and putting it together myself. Want to focus my time in other things, but I do need switches.

BMS integrated in the charging brick - nice or stupid idea?

So, my project is a little tight in space. Just like Vanarian I'm building electric rollerblades, but thought it might be useful for everyone as it would save money for everyone IF it works. Since VESC has discharge protection, we don't need the BMS for riding, only for charging. My idea for...

    Which BMS for a 10S battery ?

I'm interested in that bypassing idea so you can use a 5A BMS instead of a 100A BMS making it much more affordable. Does anyone have a full diagram of this bypassing AND the wires to the battery, esc and battery? I'm kinda confused, could be because its 2am though. Gonna try and sketch...

Alibaba 50 dollars VESC worth it?

I've seen the heatsinked VESC on alibaba as well. it might increase durability if it's properly done. problem is if they downgraded mosfets to actually need heatsink.

    VESC Fault DRV8302

thx a lot. I bought mine from Ollin, but he charged me 45 dollars just for the shipping. if I have to send it back to him to get fixed it's going to get almost as expensive as a new one. living in Japan has its downsides.

Alibaba 50 dollars VESC worth it?

that would be great mccloed, please let us know. I fried one of my VESCs and need 3 more, and don't have the money to buy them at 200 dollars a piece.

Alibaba 50 dollars VESC worth it?

So I started to see VESCs being sold at alibaba.com for 65USD-50USD https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/VESC-FOC-SIna-wave-controller_60483595550.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.utuVT2 I'm very concerned by the size of those capacitors, but considering I had to pay around 170 USD(with 45USD just...

    VESC Fault DRV8302

Hey undercoverpenguin, where did you send the VESC to repair? and how much it cost to repair? I'm having the same DRV8302 problem - VESC boots up, connects, read configuration, but as soon as I try to run motor detection it stops responding and the red blinking light keeps lit from bootup and...

VESC parking brake for electric wheelchair

Actually I can't post pictures right now. I'm in concept phase still. It's not a wheelchair for elderly or disabled though, more like a transportation commuting vehicle. I intended to use as little of hardware as possible to put this feature, so since the VESC has a MCU on it and has a UART...

VESC parking brake for electric wheelchair

As I understand dragbrake shorts the phases and still uses energy to brake instead of the regenerative braking where the motor is "passive" and generating electricity instead of using it. Would this be able to use the full torque of the motor to keep it from rolling? I mean the full torque it...

VESC parking brake for electric wheelchair

So, I'm working in a project and using the VESC. It's a sort of wheelchair and people have asked for an electronic parking brake. So this is how it should work: It doesnt apply any torque to the motor unless the motor spins, then it will counter accelerate to nullify this torque. this way it...

AT-One electric inline skates (quick update Dec 2020)

Theres somethings I have to disagree here. pouches are way more flexible in size than cylindrical cells. They can be made in any size. Manufacturers offer them in the sizes market demands and that's why you see usually a more common shape. So if you want to put as much juice as possible in a...

AT-One electric inline skates (quick update Dec 2020)

Well, pouches can take any form and shape and that makes them the most versatile. Cylindrical have a little higher energy density per weight, but not higher than density per volume. the number to beat is the 175Wh/kg of high end LiPos. just to remind Lithium polymer are li-ion usually with a...

AT-One electric inline skates (quick update Dec 2020)

I heard Sony VTC line is discontinued and it was only available to OEMs in the first place making it impossible to prototype with them. Most VTC5 on the market are not legit, although they may be manufactured in the same place, they probably just kept making them despite sony not wanting them...

AT-One electric inline skates (quick update Dec 2020)

Thanks for the feedback. The 3D sketch is lacking the bridges to strengthen the torsion, when I put these the resistance increases a lot. they will be either welded in place or cast depending on the manufacturer and funds available. Also, putting more material sideways would only increase...

AT-One electric inline skates (quick update Dec 2020)

HUGE turnaround in my project. I'm going now with hub motors! BUT they will be developed by a partner. can't say much more about it since its in a NDA. I can show you though my new design on the frame using aluminum. In the image you can see the aluminum frame and the battery/electronics...
