    New Yamaha ebike in Japan

Will this work with Tongxin motor?

That's what I use with my Tongxin. Works fine sensorless, but never tried with the sensors attached. An added "feature" with mine is that it locks the speed after holding down the throttle for ~6 secs (crude cruise control). No guarantee that BMS Battery will ship exactly the same controller...

    Lightest, quietest hub motor?

Lets see which breaks first, the motor or the forks. :P My next bike will be very similar to your Trek but I'll keep closer to the rated power for this fragile little hub. Cheers Spike

    Lightest, quietest hub motor?

Hi Crusoe The lightest, quietest motor is probably the Tongxin roller geared motor. I've been using one for about 6mths for my commute. It's the same motor as used on the http://www.cytronex.com/ bikes. I bought mine direct as a kit though. Pros: Almost silent, very small, very light ~2.5Kg...

Anyone dealt with OutRider in China?

I was looking for a Tongxin motor supplier and came across this site http://www.h9.com.cn/proshow.asp?articleid=607. Anyone had any dealings with them? Good or bad? Cheers Spike

    9C "whine", vibration-dampening coating?

I've tried the Dynamat on my 9C. It helps but doesn't stop the noise. It would be great if a change of controller could eliminate the noise altogether. Spike

    Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

I tried to register my e-bike as a moped in WA a couple of years ago. I was told it wasn't possible under any circumstances. They weren't interested in the registration fee at all. I just hide the motor and batteries under panniers, but I would prefer to pay the registration fee if I could.

Lightest possible hub motor for road bike?

When I tried a Bafang on my road bike I found that the weight of the batteries was the problem not the hub. It was unstable and I felt every bump in the road. I switched to an old MTB very quickly. Unless you are looking at LiPo then it might be something else to consider before you commit too...

    External controller for Kollmorgen motors

It might be quicker and easier to just buy this motor http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16229 ?

    External controller for Kollmorgen motors

Yes. Either of those should work. 250W is a bit weak but for a kid kart that might be a good thing. I think the original Kollmorgen controller was 400W so the 350W controller would be a closer match. You probably know this, but the extra watts won't make it go any faster, just adds more torque...

Target: 200W (ish) Aussie Stealth Bike - ideas

OK. This is probably pushing the law a bit, but how about 2 * 200w motors with different windings & separate throttles/controllers. I'm sure this has been done before, but it would be difficult to prove you used both motors at the same time and the combination could improve reliability, speed...

    External controller for Kollmorgen motors

You can get controllers that run from 24V-72V. However, if you are planning to run it at 24V you're best off buying a 24V controller just to be sure. The only reason I can think for you to go for 24V would be if you can't afford more batteries. The motor works OK at 36V but is best at 48V...

    External controller for Kollmorgen motors

I've used Crystalyte and E-Crazyman controllers. The wiring is not guaranteed to be the same even if the brand is, but here's a start... http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=173&p=1656&hilit=+uspd+external+controller#p1656 http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4696...

Is this a safe battery chemistry?

Hi Lock I got the batteries about 3 years ago and I'm hoping they were shipping LiMn2O4 back then. They've certainly been "bullet proof" so far. Shorted, bashed in an accident and thrashed as far as my kit would take them. Always recharge to ~58V and if the BMS cuts the power a quick on/off...

Is this a safe battery chemistry?

Thank you. I believe that's one of the safer types to over-discharge? i.e. it won't burst into flames. Right? Cheers Spike

Is this a safe battery chemistry?

Hi Olaf Thanks for the pointers. That's two types if Lithium off the list. I know GBP ship LiMn2O4 now but when I bought these it was probably some other chemistry. Sorry. This went way over my head  I'll look it up and see if I can understand what you mean. Edit! OK. I looked it up...

Is this a safe battery chemistry?

I bought some 24V 20AH Lithium-Ion batteries a few years ago from GBP Batteries. They were expensive but they've been very reliable and easy to own. The only complaint I would have is that now I've soldered the shunt on the controller the BMS occasionally trips on steep hills. I'm thinking about...

Help! I let the magic smoke out of my Currie ElectroDrive

Hi Dermot The links I sent you were for the Kollmorgen motor, so not very helpful to you. Sorry! Hopefully someone will know how to mod the motor in the picture. If not, they are easy (but not cheap) to replace... http://www.thesuperkids.com/elbipa.html http://www.evdeals.com/Motors.htm I...

Diary of a Englishman in Western Australia

Thanks KiM Hey, I know I'll always be considered a pom. My work mate's a true blue and he still calls his dad a pom even though his dad has been here 50+ years and speaks with an aussie accent

The front page of the Age? That says more about Melbourne than the poms. Q: HOW do you describe a well-balanced Australian? A: One with a chip on both shoulders. :P
