Cyclone 3000W Vs. LR Big-Block single stage

The noise is mainly from the small 12t front sprocket that is needed to get enough reduction from the single stage. I have the small block single stage and it is somewhat loud compared to my Cyclone 3k. Not crazy loud, but louder than the cyclone.

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Thanks Mike, I’m really enjoying the 3D printer. I got it right before Christmas specifically for making ebike parts. It has become a great hobby to get me through the New Hampshire winter. Like you, I have been following the 3d printer industry fir several years and finally felt the...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

I taught myself Fusion 360. Still much to learn, but I fumbled my way through it. Can’t beat the price...free for hobbyists. For a slicer, I use a combination of Slic3r, and Simplify3D. I wish I could settle on one, but they each have advantages. thanks for the compliment on the...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

My winter project was designing some 3d printed covers for the LR single stage. I’m very happy with the result. Printed in PETG on a Prusa printer. Next, I’m working on a seatpost mounted battery holder for the 12S Lipos I run.

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I thought that may be the case, but I tried many of the hall phase combos. I found two that spun the motor fine on the test stand, but under load, the motor sputtered. One of these combos was what Mike at LR suggested, and another combo was found through experimenting. I'm going to junk the...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

Just wanted to give an update about my controllers woes. I ended up ordering a Lyen 12 FET from Edward. I swapped it into my setup, and it is working great. No issues with motor sputter. I'm still using the CA3. I wish I knew what the deal was with the PV controller. I guess it was just a...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I replaced all of the hall sensors with genuine Honewell SS41 sensors. I tested the bike out and the problem is still there. Time for a new controller....will just get a Lyen 12FET. What a horribly frustrating experience, I just wanna ride! -Brian

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I'm comfortable soldering and aquiring components. Is there a PCB available for sale. Also, is the firmware image available or would I have to purchase a programmed flash or CPU? I'm curious about this controller. Regards, Brian

    LightningRods mid drive kit

I may have pushed the small block too hard on my mountain trek last weekend. When I opened the motor to replace the halls, I noticed some burnt windings. How bad does this look to you all? Should I just hit it with some high temp laquer? I think I may need the big block.

    Motor winding coating...

Hello, I nicked a couple of motor windings while replacing some hall sensors. Any suggestions on what type of coatings to use for touch up? I thought about clear nail polish but I'm not sure i will hold up under temperature. THX, Brian

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

Ok, so I tried bypassing the CA3 and ran throttle direct to the powervelocity controller. The problem is still there. At this point, I'm close to tossing this controller in the trash. I'm debating whether to replace the hall sensors in the small block with genuine honeywells that are on...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

No, there aren't any settings that are timing related...just speed and power limits. I popped the motor cover last night and verified that the stock hall sensors are switching...they all switch between a few millivolts and 4.3V. The pullup resistor is around 2.7K. I don't want to pull it...

    Solutions for 'blackenng' aluminum?

Hi, I am intersted in some simple solutions for 'blackening' my aluminum parts...brackets, etc. I know there are various poducts that will blacken aluminum through a dipping process, but I'm wondering if anyone has any specific suggestions. I have considered the duracoat and ceracoat spray...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I disabled field weakening setting and set speed to 100 instead of 130. It made no difference...still sputters under load and heavy throttle. Will test halls next and most likely replace since I already ordered some honeywell parts. Brian

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I will try to disable the field weakening setting and also turn the speed setting to 100 instead of 130. Maybe they both advance the timing too much. THX, brian

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I had a few minutes last night so I put the bike on the stand and ran it full throttle with the wheel off the ground. I didn't notice any sputter at max RPM. I think this rules out an eRPM issue with the controller. The sputter only happens when the bike is loaded. I even applied rear brake...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I wish I knew of a true FOC controller that is known to work well with mid drives in sensor mode. I don't know of anyone using the Phaserunner or Sabvoton successfully on mid drives...especially full suspension mid drives, due to the torque throttle control loops not being fast enough to handle...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

Not sure as I have never tried a Sabvoton. I considered it but it was physically too large and heavy for my build.

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I can't really form an opinion on the controller until I get this issue sorted out. What I can say is that it is fairly programmable via the bluetooth app. I run it on the iphone and it works Ok...a little flakey in that it doesn't always connect to the controller. A power cycle of the...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

No luck with the controller pole setting set to 8 poles. Next step is to take the CA3 out of the equation, and then a hall effect science project....uhgg. Brian

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

Thanks, I'll check the value of the existing pullups on the controller and pull them stronger if the pole adjustment doesn't work. Mike from LR has run the same setup(powervelocity controller/small block motor) and his is working fine at high RPM. I guess it could be a crappy hall sensor...

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

I haven't tried this yet, but I noticed that my pole count setting in the Powervelocity programming app is set to 4. I believe it should be set to 8 for the small block motor. I hope that fixes my issue. thx, brian

11 Speed chain strength on mid drives?

That's good to know. What brand chain are you running? THX, Brian

    Motor sputter at higher RPMs...

Fechter, that's a good point and definitely a possibility. It would also really stink because I don't know what I can do about it except replace the controller. The question is, with what controller? I wish there were more controller options out there. THX, Brian

11 Speed chain strength on mid drives?

Hello, I am considering moving to an 11 speed setup on my LR single stage build from my existing 10 speed setup. I don't care about the extra speeds as I only use the larger cogs. I want to move from a 42T rear cog to a 48T or 50T for better hill climbing with the single stage and I see many...
