Was riding my cheap chinese ebike and heard a pop sound, bike stopped working.

Could be blown Mosfet in the controller. Troubleshooting - Learn has a guide to test if blue/green/yellow is bad. You need multimeter. I can replace any bad mosfets but it's tricky. Usually a new controller is a better solution.

using Makita 18v tool batteries to power my ebike

Makita started selling Lithium ion batteries in 2013. The original batteries had a "charge board" that connected the battery electrically to the tool and provided some charging protection. It also prevented charging (bricked the battery) if it sensed other errors. It had no way to monitor the...

5S 20A BMS boards for Makita batteries clones. Worth installing?

I've used tool batteries (Makita) in series for many years to power my ebike builds. The latest generation of genuine Makita batteries have a true BMS that cuts discharge if any cell drops below 3V. Makita only makes 10 cell 18V batteries (6ah max) and they are rightfully expensive. There...

China Factory harvesting quality cells from Tool batteries.

Anyone considering using tool batteries to power ebikes beware of a new fraud. Old fraud is selling admitted clones that deliver 1/3 the promised capacity (AH). I've bought "genuine" Makita 6.0ah batteries on eBay for a cheap price hoping they were actually filled with expensive 3.0ah cells...

Crystalyte 48v40a 5303 powered Cannondale tandem

I built a Santana and a Cannondale etandem with the same new Crystalyte kits. Hard to find Crystalyte cruise control included. We love the results, but don't need 2. In San Diego. Details here: https://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/bik/d/bonita-electric-tandem-ebike/7588074272.html

The Snow Joe ION18SB Snow Blower... modified..

BMS is inside the battery = Battery Management System. Perhaps those 50V caps are inside the controller which is powered by the the snow Joe 10S battery. I just modified a 80v lawn mower to run on the no ID batteries I run my ebikes and everything else that uses DC power saving the $600 cost...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=68750 Thread started in 2015 about Echo 58V (14s) batteries for ebike use and attempts to power Echo equipment on ebike batteries. Good idea that would work. Use the smallest 2ah (cheapest) 80V Atlas battery (20s) to mount in the stock...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

The motor isn't much like a hubmotor other than being brushless with hall timing sensors and a shaft with a flat on one side. The Al cover is from my scrap bin and came from an early Heinzman brushed motor used on EV Global Lead Acid battery ebikes. It happened to be the right size to keep the...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

Did you test and measure 40V 6Ah? 20 18650 (10S x 2P) cells just fit that batteries dimensions. Quality 3.0-3.4AH 10A max cells do exist but are very expensive. "Not genuine" tool batteries never deliver the capacity (AH) promised. I tried and tested dozens and 60% of promised is the...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

I finished the conversion of the new Atlas 80V push mower to operate on 3 18V Makita mount batteries. I mowed over a half acre of weeds with 40% of my 9ah battery capacity remaining. I'm very happy with the results. Since I could not get the stock controller to recognize a non-Atlas...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

So... no success substituting 4 18V Makita directly. I still think the center pin of the battery is probably providing a specified resistance I haven't found. Anyone who owns an Atlas 80/40v battery, please measure the resistance between the center pin and ground and report along with a rough...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

Makita sold the first Li-ion tools in 2005 and followed battery tradition of labeling batteries with working voltage. So 3.7 x 5s = 18V. The others that followed did the same until Dewalt decided to label 5s as 20V. Great for marketing since who wouldn't rather have 20V over 18V for the same...

Powering 80V lawnmower with non-stock battery

I use Makita 18V (5s) batteries to power any brand tool, ebikes and anything else needing DC power. I've replaced a heavy old gas motor on a high end front throw reel lawnmower with early Currie brushed motor (free) and it's a perfect close cut machine for bermuda. I have tons of experience...

inline watt meter for 72v battery?

Quick and dirty solution, 72v=20s. open battery connect a small wire at 10s (36v) to the + of the cheap 60v max. wattmeter. AH reading stays accurate. Double volt, watt or WH readings. If connect at 2s them V,W,Wh needs 10x which is easier math but less resolution. Most of those...

Anyone seen or used these 18650 cells.

I use 15 cell Makita style batteries to power ebike builds. I've had them custom built in China since 2017 with LG MJ1 (18V10.5ah)or S 30Q(18v9.0ah) cells. Excellent power density, cycle life, safety and low cost. Until...Covid. Cell prices 2x, Shipping 3x and backed up with container...

Motor spins fine when wheel lifted, but makes ugly rattling sound when on the ground.

Be sure to check for even spoke tightness. I've had similar experience....quiet off ground, rattles when weight on wheel. Proper trueing made it always quiet.

    Stromer ST2 - drive error code 0X210002

You searched for the that error code? I had no trouble finding lots of guys with the same error. You now seemed intent on repairing the ST2 not using a generic controller. Great idea, I can help much with that. Controllers can be repaired. If you can't test the controller's mosfets, go...

    Stromer ST2 - drive error code 0X210002

First, figure out which of the small wire is the thermistor. Usually it's 10K ohms at room temp between thermistor wire and black. I would suggest that you get a "ebike tester" (~$15). It will tell you if the halls and phase wire output is normal and if the controller has any problems...

I gutted a E+'s "in hub" controller - strange results

Interesting. It 17amp max. 36/48v controller with a 54v battery rated for 30amps continuous. If I could survive the shaking below 10mph it feels pretty good above 10. The controller works so well with other direct hub motor including Crystalyte 408.

I gutted a E+'s "in hub" controller - strange results

Amberwolf, I just watched Justin's video on Salvaging a BionX hub motor with bad internal controller. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc8OJtFRUng The BionX has 24coils/22magnets/halls every 8 coils (120degrees). He used a Phaserunner3 controller, software and a Window's computer to...

    Stromer ST2 - drive error code 0X210002

I have several ST1 hub motors. Those have the controller inside the hub which sometimes failed. I opened the hub removed the controller and brought the 3 phase and 5 Hall sensor wires out to a 30A generic controller and its a great bike. I believe the ST2 has the controller in the battery area...
