    If it were me, I'd just power it off a separate smaller battery hooked up to a momentary switch. The small battery will last a long time because it's only on for a second or two while you look at the voltage... Way easier than messing around with trying to step down the voltage.

    Pretty cool. I've seen people make these out of old washing machine motors which you can find for free. If you own property with running water I would say that's the best way to go off grid.

    Thanks. I keep hearing this same advice about full suspension. My commute is actually entirely on paved bike trails, so I at least for that it won't be a big deal. I want to use the bike that I have for now. Maybe I'll get a full suspension sometime after.
