    personal bitch, voltage meter

If it were me, I'd just power it off a separate smaller battery hooked up to a momentary switch. The small battery will last a long time because it's only on for a second or two while you look at the voltage... Way easier than messing around with trying to step down the voltage.

    Shaft Drive Grocery Getter

Shaft driven ebike sounds awesome. No more dinking around with derailleurs and chains. I've spent hours trying to get derailleurs to shift perfectly on bikes. The idea of just having a shaft drive that just works every time is a bit mind boggling. I used to ride a Honda CX500 motorcycle that I...

Wanted:Ebike that looks like a Motorcycle

Ruff Cycles has some really cool frames that are styled after old school motorcycles. Might be something you'd want to check out blueshift. http://store.ruff-cycles.com/ruff-cycles-bikes.html

Advice on my first build: DD rear hub 48V 1000W

I am pretty much in the exact same boat as you. Sounds like we are thinking about building very similar bikes. My plan is to go with the leaf 1500w motor, but that's because I want a little extra power for fun. User neptronix has a thread where he tests the leaf 1500w motor extensively which is...

DD ebike hubmotor used as micro-hydro generator

Pretty cool. I've seen people make these out of old washing machine motors which you can find for free. If you own property with running water I would say that's the best way to go off grid.

DIY ultralight, Retro biplane style, twinprop

He actually did a quick test the other night and live streamed it on youtube. He was able to successfully take off and fly briefly, but I think he mentioned it was underpowered and he was going to add more motors (or something). He also had a pretty rough landing and damaged the fiberglass on...

Looking for Horn, front & rear led lights battery connected

Ebikes.ca has a few headlights that are stvzo compliant. Basically that means they are legal to use in Germany where they have strict laws about bicycle headlights. Anything that's stvzo compliant should be safe from blinding oncoming traffic...

Having trouble deciding what to use on my ebike build

Thanks. I keep hearing this same advice about full suspension. My commute is actually entirely on paved bike trails, so I at least for that it won't be a big deal. I want to use the bike that I have for now. Maybe I'll get a full suspension sometime after.

Having trouble deciding what to use on my ebike build

I've also been toying around with the idea of building a smaller bike first... I've got an old beater mountain bike that I fixed up a couple of years ago. It's got a steel frame, no suspension and it was made in the 80's. I was thinking of getting a cheap BPM2 kit to put on it just to see if I...

Having trouble deciding what to use on my ebike build

So I've been coming up with a shopping list. Think I got it almost all pinned down. Starting to think I'm really overbuilding this, but then again I want it to be fun right? :P I can always tune it down for my regular commutes. Anyone see anything I'm missing? Leaf 1500w Hub motor + Rim - $210...

Having trouble deciding what to use on my ebike build

Thanks for the input everyone! I think at this point I have ruled out the BBSHD. It just seems counter intuitive to put all that power directly into the cranks. This is basically what got me thinking about direct drive in the first place. I saw one too many youtube videos with souped up DD's...

Having trouble deciding what to use on my ebike build

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't really looked into geared motors that much so I will have to check those out. I was already planning on buying my battery from ev3em, so I'll take a look at their hubs too. I maybe should have mentioned that I am not really interested in top speed, so I'm...

Having trouble deciding what to use on my ebike build

I'm looking into building an ebike this winter that I can start using next spring. I want to start using it as a bit of a car replacement. Commuting to work, buying groceries, etc... Most of the places I go are within a 10 mile radius, so I want 20-30 mile range. I also want it to be fun. I used...
