Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Sorry didn’t see this before - if I remember correctly the button/icon on the top right (looks like a head with speech bubble) switched between languages and enabled me to put the parameter labels into English.

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

I sold the Quazzar last year with the original controller and 60v battery as I decided to do my full bike test and needed a 125cc to get through the Mod 1/2 tests. I had my 72v battery pack built by a UK guy (Mersebikes) - he’s on Facebook and you can find him via Google. I know he was having...

(UK) Legally converting motorcycle to moped classification?

I’ve been there with the same topic - lots of folks have previously tried to change engine class of a 125 to 50cc to use it on a moped licence and DVLA are wise to this. I even looked into doing something similar with a wrecked Zero FX and downgrading motor but DVLA wanted a formal engineers...

Early advice for a new build

Yes I would definitely use the Yamasaki frame again given low cost of donor bike and the fact it is almost a 600cc large size bike which comes with a lot of space inside the frame for battery box, and under the tank where I mounted the controller. It’s not a Yamaha or Kawasaki so you need to...

Early advice for a new build

Sorry forgot to say …. Factoring in battery pack, motor/controller and all the other bits such as contactor, display if you want to monitor battery in real time, cables, crimping tools etc you are looking at £2,500 - £3,000 on top of your donor bike …. based on my experience when I built mine.

Early advice for a new build

I’m the guy who built the Yamasaki - what I can say about the 4kw hub motor I used is that it’s definitely equivalent of a 125cc using the 72v pack I had built. Acceleration is quicker up to about 25-30mph than a petrol equivalent then it’s about equal and tbh it tails off after 50mph. All on a...

    Yamasaki YM50-RE Build

Been a while since I posted an update on the Electric Yamasaki - various lockdowns in the UK have meant time out on the road over the past year has been a bit limited but the miles are starting to build up now. Only issue has been with the the indicators which was a simple fix and just needed...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Just sent you PM with some links to UK suppliers of batteries for these types of scoters - note that some Artisan type Vespa clones run at 72v. As you will see from previous posts on this thread it is possible to configure the Quazzar controller to run at 72v but as you will have seen from my...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Update on the 72v pack - it didn’t really make a difference to top end speed. Slightly quicker acceleration off the mark. So I think this just shows the controller is limiting phase amps to the motor.

Upgrading to a 60volt fat tire scooter to 72 volt and wiring kelly controller

I used a paddock stand with the hub motor axle clamped to the swing arm supports to do the initial testing of my motor, controller battery setup. It was OK for low speed / low RPM testing but be careful with putting too much speed through the motor as mine tried to pull itself off the clamps...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

I managed to have a play with updating the controller settings - all still on the 60V pack as I’ve only just got the connectors come through the post to be able to connect my 72V pack. First off the app itself isn’t that intuitive - took me a while to work out you use the upload function to...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Haven’t had time today to update controller settings but I did get to take the second controller apart. It’s definitely a 72v controller with 100v caps so shouldn’t be any issues running at higher voltage. It’s a 12 FET controller and looks to be a straight UGBest rebrand of the LBMC72122 -...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

SUCCESS! Well in so far as I have just got the LBMC GUI software to talk to the controller and read the settings. I want to wait until my second controller arrives before I make changes and write anything back! Here’s what I used : Windows 10 Version 4.0.0-202 of LBMC gui software (only...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Just found this .... http://www.härdin.se/blog/2019/08/04/lifan-e3-teardown/ http://www.härdin.se/blog/2019/08/04/lifan-e3-teardown/ Looks to be same controller as on the Quazzar - if so then it is a Lingbo LBM and the GUI software (which looks same as used for Magic Pie) should work. My...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Not sure it matches any of them - but the pdf link does look close! I did a bit more digging and found the type approval documents for the Ecobit scooter range including the Quazzar (which is model number ZM-EV03). There are some reference in those documents to the controller but the code for...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Not sure that will work. I’ve programmed Kelly controllers with their own app on Android but that’s pretty unique to their controllers in how they communicate to the control unit in the controller itself. Also the Bluetooth module they use is generic but the way the app communicates through it...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

I like the colour scheme! I managed to get a couple of black side panels and leg shield cheap so going for all black on mine. I didn’t get chance to try the brake/throttle trick today but did spot that there’s a USB cable fitted to the controller that looks like it’s a programming cable...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Also meant to say the kill switch on mine seems to vary speed - almost like it’s a two speed switch going into the controller. Haven’t actually measured what the lower setting is though in MPH / have you tried changing that on yours?

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

I was going to try if there’s any way to derestrict top speed in the controller. Can’t see any obvious derestrict wires to cut/plug in as there are on some ebike controllers to limit speed. Next step I was going to try is the method Super Soco/Cineco (City Slicker) use on their bikes - hold...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Just replied to your PM. I’ve not got round to fitting the Sabvoton 72150 I’ve bought for this yet. I’ve also got another spare original controller on its way which I’m waiting to arrive before I try putting 72v through the original set up. I think it should be capable of 45-50mph with the...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Thanks guys - I’ve got a controller on order. Reckoned I could use that new 72v capable controller for both packs given it’s programmable and I can switch settings for LVC phase amps etc. Still be good to know if anyone recognises the controller in this model - there are quite a few in the U.K...

Chinese Retro Scooter - Running at 72v versus 60v

Just managed to pick up this Quazzar e-divine retro scooter for cheap without battery pack. I believe it was manufactured by Ecobit back in 2015 and looks identical to any number of retro Vespa inspired scooter that have been around a number of years. It originally ran off dual 60v 20ah...
