Do 52V packs increase BBSHD Controller Failures?

Thanks, this is good advice. I have been charging to 4.1 V/cell, but recently went back to 4.2V for some of my charges when I only have the pack sitting at full charge for a few hours. I've gone back to no more than 4.1V/cell now and will see what happens. Would like to go down to 4.0, but am...

Do 52V packs increase BBSHD Controller Failures?

Yes, I believe that the electrolytic capacitors are 63V rated based on what I recall from the controllers I have picked all the potting compound out of. There are probably getting some extra stress with the higher voltage, although their lifetime is typically more dependent on operating...

Do 52V packs increase BBSHD Controller Failures?

I've been commuting with a BBSHD bike using 52V packs for over a year now, putting about 800 km a month on the bike, on average. I'm running the full 30A (1500W peak), but usually average closer to 300-500W while riding. So far I have fried 4 controllers on two different drive units. Three of...

    BBSHD Stock Fuse

Yeah, could be. I just hope they gave it enough headroom to account for temperature etc. Ran it at 30A for a while and no issues yet...presumably it has to be sized to handle at least 30A with some headroom or Luna could not sell it with a 30A programmed controller.

    BBSHD Stock Fuse

I just bought a new BBSHD and it now comes with a fuse in line with the positive power input. It looks like a glass fuse and is encased in adhesive sealing heat shrink so I can't see what the rating is on it. Does anyone know what the current rating is on this fuse? I'm debating whether to...

    Best 52V Charger?

No, I wouldn't spend $300 on something that's not as robust as the Meanwell, am just wondering what is on the market. I'm surprised at how wimpy the chargers appear even for BionX and other production bikes/systems (at least the few that I've seen).

    Best 52V Charger?

I don't think I would spend more than what the Meanwell costs, but it is interesting to know what is on the market. It seems that there is a gap between the low-cost chargers and the Satiator. I just ordered a Meanwell and will set up a voltage/current monitor to go with it. It should not be...

    Best 52V Charger?

tomjasz, I was thinking that something in the $100 range would be reasonable, but do you know of another option in the $300 range? At this point I'm looking to set up a Meanwell with the TK15 meter, but am interested what else is on the market.

    Best 52V Charger?

By chance, has anyone found a decent off-the-shelf current/voltage display rated for 60V and ~ 6A? I think it would be nice to add one to the Meanwell supply in line with the charge output.

    Best 52V Charger?

Thanks folks, this is really good info! It didn't occur to me that you could just charge the pack with CV/CC and then let it "float" at 58V-ish. I don't leave the charger plugged in for long periods of time anyway. So I think the Meanwell HLG-320H-54A looks like the way to go for what I need...

    Best 52V Charger?

Hey guys, Thanks for the interesting ideas, but I'm more interested in a robust off-the-shelf solution than a science project at this point. I'm looking to charge from 120V AC mains and avoid using the chargers I currently have since I want something that is reliable. Am mostly wondering if...

    Best 52V Charger?

Thanks for the info, amberwolf. I haven't used a Satiator, but I kind of expected it to be the most robust device out there. Too bad that it seems overfeatured/overpriced for what a lot of people need, but for the amount of money I've already spent on 4 unreliable chargers, it would probably...

    Best 52V Charger?

I'm interested in finding a good quality/reliable charger for a 52V pack (14 series cell) and am wondering if anyone has recommendations. I have 4 Luna chargers...one is dead and the other three all have a variety of issues. I'd like something better, but am not willing to pay $400 USD for a...
