    a123 on ebay again

These cells are emoli, it's LiMn. Closer to the Sony cells found in Milwaukee 28V pack. Definitely nothing like A123 M1.

How Fast is your Ebike versus How Fast do you want it?

top out @ 56 kph typical cruise speed @ 35-38 kph scary test speed @ 68 kph with battery boost pack. I feel much safer @ speed < 40 kph on local street.

    System (U, Motor, Controller) Efficiency

I know we got an ebike, but some of us chose to pedal assist to get some exercise or just give our motor a chance for cooling. I'm interested in what you guys are achieving for efficiency. I think this will help us make a better bike in the long run. So what's your total overall system...

    Negative Li-Ion battery news

It seems like the editor (Matthew Lewis) had a preconceived motive when editing the article. Probably to stir things up and "make headline". It can easily be interpret in a totally different light. "Life means 10 years, plus. For hybrids we know (their batteries) last 10 years plus. For the...

What's the internal resistance of your battery?

Too Much math for this old brain. My A123 M1 have < 1mOhms resistance as bare cells Build into packs it's 4mOhms resistance mostly due to the tap/balancing wires (cell-cell is stilll < 1mOhms) My one bad cells exhibit >3mOhms resistance. Now these are all resting state with > 50% SOC.

DeWalt BMSes have changed (for the worse)

Why don't you just tap the (+) & (-) from the cells and run it out to a pair of Anderson PowerPoles. That way you don't have to worry about the BMS and still keep your warranty intact. You can still use the stock Dewalt charger too, but I wouldn't recommend it as many of the cells were...

    Jonathan's 44 lbs Specialized FSR S-Works

A few member asked me about the charging solution of my pack so here goes. I normally use a Mastech HY5020 for quick charging. This PS set to 36.5V can provide a quick 20A CC/CV charge (2.5C for my 4P configuration). However, this is not the charger I would recommend for everyone. If you want...

    which gauge wire to use?

Jay, I would use Anderson SB120 connectors. And instead of crimping, I would use a 80W solder iron or torch to solder. http://www.powerwerx.com/product.asp?ProdID=35858&CtgID=3578

    which gauge wire to use?

Your wiring requirement is quite similar to what I used in my WWII Search Light (28VDC @ 100A cont). I used 6 AWG welding cable (from CloudEV). These are typically rated at 115A, while the 4 AWG are rated at 150A continuous. Welding cable are usually made of 30 AWG or smaller strands which...

    My Stock Puma Motor Review

BMC / Puma does have an internal planetary gear. When you're coasting there is only road & freewheel noise same as a regular bike. When you engage the motor there is some noise. The Crystalyte DD motor, is always engaged so there is relatively more noise. The gears are also made out of nylon...

Help With Disassembling EVTECH BMC rear hub motor

Use your solder iron @ high heat for control epoxy removal. Don't use a Dremel, it's way too coarse.

    My Stock Puma Motor Review

BMC / Puma motors are definitely in it own class. I have both the BMC (modded) and a xlyte 408 motor. And ridden several different x5 setup. The (+) - BMC definitely have ALOT more torque compared to the 408 and even the 5303 that I've ridden. - Efficiency is significantly 30% better than...

    Jonathan's 44 lbs Specialized FSR S-Works

cee: It's a Specialized FSR S-Works build in 1999. I bought it from the original owner (with receipt of his store purchase) for a $400. It had a loose bottom bracket, which was a 5 minute job to fix. I'm now in a hunt for another FSR with disc since above 30mph can easily break down your...

    Puma Speed and Voltage question

My BMC gets 27mph with 1S4P (34V loaded) Dewalt pack 37mph with 2S2P (64V loaded) Dewalt pack It accelerate really quickly up to 30mph but takes some time to go from 35 -> 37 mph. The impressive part with BMC is not really the speed but the tremendous torque that it have with the Crystalyte...

    Puma 25a Controller Max Voltage?

I was told that these controller would handle up to 45V but never tested it myself. IMHO these controller are not worth the $100. You will be greatly disappointed with the performance (torque & speed) of your BMC, it's best to just purchase the motor alone. My stock 25A can barely pull 20 mph...

Bike Frame Points of Weakness?? - especially aluminum frames

Besides the torque of the motor which rips apart your dropout, I think the other biggest worry is encountering a pothole or bump @ high speed. It's probably best to study how the large companies design their DOWNHILL MTN bike. They normally place extra emphasis on the headtube, downtube and...

    BMC Motor Burnout!

You need to remove the wheel/motor from the bike. The freewheel does not need to be remove. You'll see the screws when you remove the wheel  trust me.

    Testing 36v DeWalt packs

The guy that sells the Mastech lives couple miles away from me and was able to cut a local pickup deal so it's not so bad @ $250. Considering most 10S charger such as Hyperion, FMA, Astroflight runs right around $200 and can only do charging :D

    BMC Motor Burnout!

After rewiring my motor still doesn't work. I think the winding is fried. I might have to do a rewind. As for the wire upgrade, to open it's fairly easy. Just unscrew the dozen or so philips screws on the freewheel side. This will expose your wiring. To swap out the wiring is however a...

    Testing 36v DeWalt packs

SuperSumoYakuza, if you plan to use the Dewalt charger & BMS to charge your rig, keep the wires from your BMS to each cell short and relatively equal. I've wasted hours on end trying to resolve the stupid blinky lights. If money is no object then I would get couple Mastech 5020 to charge your...

    BMC Motor Burnout!

I finally got the extended battery back to my bike mounted properly. I decided to make a run to the local hill to test out the performance of the batteries. About 6 miles into my trip up a 1500' ascend the motor cuts out. No pop, no nothing. I still got power to the controller but no throttle...

    ebikes.ca 36-72v controllers

I bought their C7235SI (24-72V 35A Start Immediate Analog Controller, IRFB4310 Mosfets) which works perfectly fine with my BMC. However, they are out of stock at the moment.
