Silicon Carbide Schottky Diodes, ideal diodes for charging?

I ran across these silicon carbide schottky diodes and am wondering what everyone's opinion who has used them or thinks they would work in a charging system for nickel based batteries. I have a setup of 4 packs of 20 nimh cells in series and want to set up a charging method where I don't require...

    Lightning Motorcycles 22-kWh pack

That is rather amazing they are going to offer that to the public already. 218 mph top speed on a bike you can just buy, and it's electric. I'm pretty sure that's faster than most 1000cc sport bikes.

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

From each string I'd say 7-10 amps would be about right, that's about 56 to 80 amps. I'm not so sure how much the total system would draw on the batteries. The curtis controllers have under voltage cutback at 17 volts, so I'm thinking that might help to prevent the cells from reversing at least...

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

As a follow up I snapped a few photos to give a representation of what I was explaining in prior posts. The photo below is the two chargers I currently have, and would need 6 more to charge the 40S8P pack. By johnws6 at 2012-08-30 Here is a photo of the inside of the charger itself. The...

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

That's been a concern I've been trying to address as well, as far as making sure the cells are at somewhat of an equal state of charge. With 160 cells though, it's hard to guarantee they ever would be. As far as the charging route goes, the chargers I'm looking to hack and use at this point are...

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

I remember reading about the 3700 mah nimh cells you had erupt a number of years back, and that has been a reminder as to make sure this battery pack would work. :) It looks to me then that I should have a diode between each battery pack and charger. Also I need to have one on the output of...

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

Ah yes that's true. Would this be better, since I could wire it after the positive lead on the charger? http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Vishay-Semiconductors/SB540-E3-73/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtvcUztdGSumL%2fJtICIUTwc5WTgrK3twkE%3d

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

I think I see how that would work. I did a little research and found these might be suited for this application? http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ON-Semiconductor/MBRD630CTT4G/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtvcUztdGSumFE0r4pYHY%2fvOS0lZOAECu4%3d Having the pack connected in parallel full time however won't...

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

I thought leaving them connected would be a discharge issue, just seemed easier than having a huge lego block of anderson power pole connectors. Would it work if I were to leave the packs in parallel permanently connected but run the chargers to each individual series string?

Proper Nicad parallel pack construction charging procedure

Hi all, I'm looking to get your thoughts and feed back on a project I'm currently constructing. I'm making a rotary self propelled sweeper and am using an old nicad pack I had from a previous unfinished project. It's a pack made of 160 Sanyo N3000CR Nicad cells. I made the pack from garolite...

    Astro 3210 group buy?

Lol. I just thought that seemed a little excessive for a e-bike. I have a 3000 watt motor on my pocket bike i built a year or so ago and it does 50 mph. I dont need a pocket bike that does 50 mph, but its just fun i guess. When you guys say something well 6000 watts is just cutting it ,i...

    Power Tool Chargers...e-bike use?

I went ahead and tried out the chargers tonight with good results. I hacked out the cover and soldered direct leads for the battery hook up and the thermistor. The battery took about .7 amp hours in 5 minutes i would say, it was rather quick. Anyways here are the pics of what i did.

    Power Tool Chargers...e-bike use?

After pondering numerous ways to charge my 48 volt pack of 200 sanyo N3000CR nicads in a 48 volt configuration i finally came to this approach. I noticed that right now on ebay you can purchase many cheap power tool chargers that have delta V and delta T built right in. The highest they go for...

Massachusetts may consider a mileage charge

So how do we do that? Weigh every vehicle every time it rolls down the road? What if a truck has nothing that it is hauling, or maybe it's hauling a front end loader. So there may be 10,000 pounds difference here. The only reason they are planning on this sort of " tax" is because the electric...

    Tenergy NiCad SubC's Report

I'm pretty sure he is physically disconnecting the two 24volt strings from their series connections. At least that's what i seem to recall. I'm doing a similar setup with a 48 volt pack as well and i want to be able to fast charge all the cells. I have 200, 1.2 volt 3 ah sanyo n3000-cr...

    Tenergy NiCad SubC's Report

I always figure with the same amount of weight i can go almost twice as far with nicad than i can with lead. Lead batteries lose a lot of capacity with higher and higher discharge rates as well. Also consider with your price figures that nicad will last 1000 cycles under normal conditions...

    Tenergy NiCad SubC's Report

The konions seem like they would be a little too delicate for my application. I don't care to bother with LVC systems. It worries me when i see all these defective packs in large numbers and the selling slogan still being used as reliable with a thousand cycles. Also i've looked at the...

    Tenergy NiCad SubC's Report

It was an awesome deal, and at the time i only had about $350 to my name for the next week ( college student )/ until my next pay check. So i had to choose between eating or these batteries. The choice was pretty easy, i can always eat later. The ebay seller got back to me this morning and...

    Tenergy NiCad SubC's Report

I bought 300 N3000CR sanyos brand new for $320 shipped. I'm using 200 of them for now, if i can fit another 80 of them i'll use 280 total for a 40S 7P pack. You can run these at 80 amps continuous, so in a 7P pack that's right around 560 amps. More than enough power for a pocket bike...
