Converting a beach cruiser with front wheel motor.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the input. Do you think installing a 1000W as opposed to a 500W will be an issue? I went with a 1000W on my rear motor hub ebike and am glad I did now since I am a big guy (tall, not overweight) and wanted to have the power to climb modest hills without...

Converting a beach cruiser with front wheel motor.

Thank you for your experiences with the mid-drive, but it's way out of his budget for this project unfortunately. Curious though, what do you find advantageous about them over hub motors?

Converting a beach cruiser with front wheel motor.

Last year I converted my first ebike and posted about it here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=100409 Love the build and use the bike all the time reliably thanks to all the help on this forum. :D A friend of mine was asking for my help with plans to convert his beach...

To be honest, the suspension isn't that bad for my current use case. I know where the divots in my route are by now, but if I were to use this bike on an uncharted run, it would present more of a problem. Still a 1000x better than the communal 'worksman' single speed bikes I used to putt around...

Just an follow-up after my first month with my bike. It's most convenient, more-so than I anticipated. The ability to get to and from my car at my own pace based on my schedule is exactly what I was looking for. This thing is great. It's a lot of fun to ride. It's hard not to abuse the fact...

Winner, winner. :D It is indeed the battery disconnecting. I would agree that it's probably to prevent parasitic drain. I don't need to reconnect the battery to re-initiate the connection either, or wire in a momentary disconnect switch. The EM3EV battery unit has a power button on the side...

Painted the controller matte black and cleaned up all the wiring. Looks much better now. I discovered that I had the tires underinflated, but don't have a presta adapter for the front, so I'll have to pick one up tomorrow. I am having problems though with the controller/LCD, which sucks since I...

Your Creation's Before & After Pics

Below are the B&A pics of my project. Grabbed an old 90's Schwinn, stripped it down and built it back up. Total project cost was a little over $800. 1000W rear hub with EM3ev 52V (14S4P) Super Shark Ebike Battery. Progress thread here...

I know nothing about bike tires. What would be a good replacement (budgeting)?

They have my number, but I'm not cheap. $100/hr usually keeps most 'friends' at bay. I do so hate doing side IT work regardless as there is no time frame that stops the work you did from being the source of a problem weeks down the road.

I didn't really have time for more than a 1/2 block run before I had to run errands with the family, so I didn't have a good sample when I posted. Just got back and took it a few blocks more. First impressions: The motor makes a slight whine when first starting out, but is as smooth as butter...

Haven't updated in a while since I was waiting for some parts. The paint job did not come out as I hoped, but it's much better than how it looked before, and I'm still very happy with it. I tested the clear coat wet sanding and polishing on my test piece, which came out great. The area of my...

I figured out that I wasn't using enough paint. I was way too conservative and not getting that glossy 'wet' look while painting. It's a fine line though between that and overcoating where you risk runs. I was able to get a nice shiny coat on the frame with minimal orange peel. Will hit it and...

I tried this technique on my test pipe. Hit the paint with wet sanding 400-800-1000-1200-1500 and it did exactly what you said. Smoother but dull. Just hit it with some clear coat to see how it comes out, but it already looks better. When you say several coats, Ive been wondering. Is it better...

Well, applied a coat of paint on the forks and not happy at all with the results. Try as I might, with 3-4 small coats every 10-15 mins, the texture is horrible. Holding off on the frame until I can ensure that I can smooth this out.

Spray paint. My daughter pestered me until I let her pick out the color, so I guess we're going with fire engine red. I've got a piece of irrigation pipe I'm using which is one step ahead of the bike frame, so I can test different methods. After the first coat of paint was completely dry for...

So a little update on my project (in hindsight I should have just started a progress thread instead I suppose).... It's been pretty hot in the bay area lately and my garage has not been very hospitable for painting. Don't want to waste my efforts by rushing through hot weather to prime and...

Well, spent the day off and on stripping the frame. The stripper works pretty well, but two applications were necessary for the most part. The stickers were also something the stripper wasn't meant to handle, but it only took an additional application to get through them. Now to figure out if I...

Missed this post. That fender does look nice. Did you strip the fender? Primer? Any specific type of paint?

Good points on the PAS. I'm was probably writing it off prematurely, but it will also help me extend my battery life as well. Yeah, the stripper is pretty nasty. But I had great results and it worked better than I thought with a scraper and steel wool, even on the nooks. I had a good breeze...

Thinking about stripper for the tubes and SB for the angles. Problem is that stores have been pulling the strippers with Methylene Chloride (like Aircraft stripper) from shelves. Tried 3 stores today and nothing. Grabbed some other stuff to try and we'll see how it goes.

Don't really have the real estate in my garage for something of that magnitude. Nor do I see it as something I'm going to use regularly enough to construct.

I'm going to install the PAS since I have the cranks off anyway. I figure it's there if I decide to use it. I had to go over to harbor freight this AM for some things and ran across their $29.00 "Abrasive Blaster" https://www.harborfreight.com/portable-abrasive-blaster-kit-37025.html I...

We used to own a nice GearBox toy hauler and 3 ATV's for trips down to pismo beach. I know ALL about thumb throttle fatigue. :( The kit came with a twist throttle. But I may relocate the rear brake to the left on the rebuild since I have no real preference to start with. Good points on the...
