    CYC PHOTON

I find mine to be smooth but over a very small initial range, after that it doesn't vary so much and is pretty much full on. It works fine, though - on mine I usually roll my thumb against it, rather than pulling on the blade directly. I don't ride much with throttle partially used, tend to use...

There was a recent firmware update, do you have it?

I'm almost certainly older - I often just put a ruler next to what I want to measure then take a photo with my phone then zoom in :)

    CYC PHOTON

Count 10 or 20 or more and measure that, then divide- most accurate way of doing it anyway. What is the outer diameter of the core?

It might take a while for that mod to travel down the supply chain, I guess buying direct from CYC gets you the latest version.

As a matter of interest, is your left bearing cup the same as the one Rikus describes in his recent video (a few posts back?). CYC added an O ring inboard of the threaded portion of the bearing cup to improve watertightness. The O ring seals between the bearing cup shaft and the corresponding...

    CYC PHOTON

Well, looks like they fixed it. I know I'm not the only one with the original detail. it causes all kinds of issues, including making it more difficult to set the right preload, wearing the shaft and shield bushing, and destroying the bearings. Thanks for update, that is really useful information.

    CYC PHOTON

That's it, it has a raised edge on the back that grinds away at the bearing cup and makes the bearing feel nasty. It has worn the face of the cup so much that there is a groove caused by the shield - the finish is supposed to be the same across the entire face of the bearing cup. I had hoped...

Mine was really tight, didn't move even when I was pressing the shield out.

Its the shield that covers the outer face of the left BB shaft bearing. The split ring that screws on the shaft and is then clamped in place with a hex socket head screw sits immediately against it.

    CYC PHOTON

While you have the shaft out, can you measure the outer diameter of the plastic bearing shield? I'm expecting it to be either 36.5mm or 39.7mm. I suspect that early motors were shipped with an incorrect shield and wondered if CYC had corrected this for later shipments. CYC would either have had...

Not a great way of doing this. The puller may not use the full depth of the thread in the crank and to be safe you need to use as much as possible - and being aluminium is easily stripped. Ask me how I know. Also some of the cheaper pullers may not have accurate threads anyway. That aluminium...

Posted 5 minutes ago :) Edit...and already in the first 2 minutes the video addresses a whole heap of stuff that has concerned users. Like my assessment of the 34T chainring (in my post about it, I said it was prototype level rubbish) Edit...this is really good stuff.

Getting it on isn't the problem :-) I think there is a straight extension cable in the CYC shop, or there will be alternatives on AliExpress etc.

I would also have picked up the chainring removal tool, the pin spanner supplied is close to useless. It seems to be a new addition to their shop, as they build the ability to do your own servicing (a 180 reversal from their previous attitude to repairs)...

Nice bike, looks like you've done a few upgrades; would be a shame to put a Bafang on it, the Photon is a good choice. You'll need to cut off the front ISCG tab, which isn't a big deal, if you do it right you can even use it to locate the motor. I have a post way back in this thread (April...

    CYC PHOTON

Back in April I had to wait about 3 weeks (and I was happy with that), and things rapidly got worse after that as things really kicked off. I think the CYC was under a bit of stress back then, and that was only a year ago.

Absolutely. Full credit to CYC for addressing the problem.

Not prime for me. Won't even fit my 1x decent modern MTB hardtail. YMMV, End of.

    CYC PHOTON

As a matter of interest, how many other people had the same problems as my unit? Also consider that this is only showing historical failures, and CYC appears to be very aware of them and acknowledges their problems. You really need a kind of rolling graph to show failures related to date of...

    CYC PHOTON

Don't do Facebook. Using forums to gauge reliability is only useful to see what problems occur, not the relative numbers affected. People without issues tend to be less motivated to post - or to even read forums (and hence, your post) in the first place. Your poll will be inherently biased...

    CYC PHOTON

Looking at those images I can see why the Photon is more expensive than those other motors. The Toseven looks positively agricultural. You can also see why an outrunner gets more torque for the same size - the rotor can be much larger diameter whereas on all those motors the space is taken up...

Which is as it should be. This is a Photon thread.
