Strange Diode Use on Battery Heater (Brammo Empulse)

probably a diode-connected transistor used as a temperature sensor.

Eternal outskirts of Moscow and beyond (LOTS of pics!)

Thank you for taking the time to document your travels... reminds me of some of the good times I had working in Xhanty-Mansisky in the oil business.

    Hill Scooters' Scooter

Awesome build! Curious as to what sort of heat sinking, if any, that dual controller thingy requires.

    CYC PHOTON

That's pretty awesome! Will have to keep that in mind if I ever need to ride up a wall :P

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

for my rear motor with 170/177mm dropout fitment, cassette option, I measured: flange diameter at spoke holes: 233mm flange spacing: 50mm

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

70A peak regen phase current, 30A peak regen battery current, pack has 25p of 35E cells rated for 1.7A "standard" charge current, so about 0.35C peak.

    Cable Wire Resistance

are you talking about wire graded by IEC-60137? i've only seen them applied to magnet wire used for magnetics windings, but if so, the grades are intended to be a controlling feature to determine insulation (voltage) breakdown resistance between windings. i guess as a side effect of the thicker...

Louder horn acquired, do I use a mosfet or SSR to activate?

either would work. most of those motorcycle horns are very inductive and draw a few tens of watts, so an RCD clamp would be a good idea to prevent damage.

    CYC PHOTON

Mine reads about a volt high, and I tried discussing calibrating it with CYC, with no solution.

    Problems with battery

This is kind of ghetto, but if your bench supply has floating outputs, you could put it in series with your (working) bottle battery and try to charge the pack that way.

Why is the Torque of the BM1418ZXF 1000W Motor So Low? I Need Help!

Assuming chain drive, decent bearings, and flat terrain, there shouldn't be significant loss. Yes the rated torque at that speed is low, but typical motor drives would be set up to produce many times that at stall. Even at the rated torque, through the reductions that's like 57Nm at the...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I'll verify next time I have the motor off, but fairly certain it's a bog-standard HG Spline M at 35mm. It has an HG31 8speed 11-34t on it, and don't recall having to use any spacers on it.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Some early data from a Leaf "1500W" ordered in early April, 2024: Config: 35H, "4T," prelaced into an 80mm 406 rim, 170mm dropout fitment, cassette option Mass: 10.74kg (with spokes, rim, 60cm motor cable, preterminated with ring lugs and a rectangular Hall connector) Axle: 225mm length, 85mm...

    Grin All-Axle / Base Runner L10 V6 / Cycle Analyst V3 / ERider73-T17 BB (Torque/PAS config settings advice?)

You'll want to decrease the "Throt Out during Ebrake" to closer to 0.1V (assuming your Baserunner has the default throttle voltage mapping) in order to increase the maximum allowable regen current via backpedal. A scale factor of 4 isn't a ton for something that powerful; try something closer...

    Hill Scooters' Scooter

Great progress! Are the motor axles 14mm on both ends? I just got in my Leaf 35mm, cassette version in 177mm dropout width, and the axle threads are actually M16 on the brake side, M14 on the cassette side...

Have new battery packs that I am stripping the proprietary BMS and adding one that is capable of more amps. What do I need to look out for?

This is intentional; cell-level fusing. A former coworker of mine was the one that developed the fuses for the original Tesla Model S packs, and they were largely similar.

Bafang g510 fat bike…new or used?

IIRC, the first iterations of the "Ultra" motor were named G510, and renamed M620 in later generations.

    Torque-sensing AND Cadence-sensing — an idea

I mean connect one of the quadrature outputs from the cadence sensor to the speed input on the CA3, so that you can use the CA3's speed PID loop to servo to a specific cadence, rather than a wheel speed.

    Torque-sensing AND Cadence-sensing — an idea

How about installing a BB cadence sensor, and using a leg of the output of that to drive the speed loop in the CA3?

    RadRunner Plus Rebuild

Nice work! Ralston is great going down isn't it... Less traumatic than San Bruno Ave. and burning up brakes trying to stop for the lights 😛 Are you going for the 7KV or 8.7KV fat GAA? Like you, pondering one for replacing the tired old banshee of a G062 in my Juiced Hyper scorpion...

What is the maximum speed you would ride a fully rigid bike/moped?

I personally settled on 40kph for typical gravel geometry drop bar frame sets in town, and ~60kph for long front-center geo, reverse mullet setup to increase trail. Still sketchy unless I know the roads well...

    CYC PHOTON

Thanks folks, for the great discussion on this setup... bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and it just arrived today, slapped it into a Canyon Grail (aluminum) donor bike. Only thing I had forgotten was that this frame has a BB86 shell, so had to turn a couple of bushings to reduce the...

Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

Thanks for bringing it up with Grin; I'd run into the same issue/feature of the position-backpedal-regen taking a long time to "unwind" from a user perspective, and recently watched Justin's video about the feature, where he calls that particular behavior out.

Nice! Very Nice! (Upcoming Grin 45mm Direct Drive motor)

same numbers as drive torque... so with a good controller, should be very capable of pretty good torque even at low speeds. with the regular GAA in my daily driver setup, can decelerate at nearly 10km/h at a speed of 10kph
