New 16-cell Battery Management System (BMS)

Yeah I tried getting Mike to find me a set of matching 7 pin Hyperion connectors a while back, but it proved more difficult than expected. The only matching set came from the Hyperion balancer itself and it's already pre-installed. Can't find them loose. I hope there's a simple way around this...

New 16-cell Battery Management System (BMS)

Count me in on one of the pre-assembled and tested BMS. I'm too solder and electronically-challenged. I hope you'll offer them soon after your kits are released. BTW, how do I go about connecting the BMS to my existing pack. Pics can be found here...

New 16-cell Battery Management System (BMS)

Wooah, I've been out of the loop for a few months now   . So what did I miss?  j/k Man this is cool. So I can use this BMS with my Mastech PSU to charge my A123 16s5p pack and totally eliminate the Hyperion balancers I've been using ? And I don't have to sit there...

How do you charge your A123 cells...

I currently run a 16s5p A123 setup for my bike. You can find the thread here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2317 I've used the Mastech 5020 with 2 Hyperion LBA10 balancers since last Oct. So far so good. When I'm not balancing I charge at the full 20A with each 8s5p sub...

The care and feeding of a123-based packs...

And I assume you do?  Your funny. Never said I was a webmaster. But I know a crappy website when I see one. Just sell one of your elite battery packs and hire a real pro and your set.   Scary thought.

The care and feeding of a123-based packs...

Nice work Mr. Forsen. Dang you just jumped into this thread(an A123 related thread too) and started dumping on people for buying these cells, me included. Are you mad that no one's paying attention to your no-name Chinese imports on your website? I don't know maybe because it's such a freakin'...

Can't ride in these air conditions.......

Man if I rode that day, I would have icicle-sized soot hanging under my nostrils, developed pneumonia and probably got high(like Drunkskunk said) at the same time. But seriously though, my thoughts go out to all the people who lost their homes or maybe even loved ones during this tragedy. I...

Can't ride in these air conditions.......

This is what it looked outside our house last Thursday. We took the pics leaving our community on the 15fwy. At one time I was worried it would spread over the Cleveland Nat'l forest(from pics below) and endanger our community and the other nearby communities. Last night some flames can be seen...

    LiFePO4 Battery Showdown!

I agree, if the consumer can at least get the individual cells, the warranty is not needed. Of course if you're going to buy the whole package(module packs, VMS, charger, etc.) the 3 year warranty is a nice welcome addition. Selling raw cells will hold most of us through, just like A123, then...

    LiFePO4 Battery Showdown!

What?! You went from constantly announcing new product info: Modules out this November TO oooops they're too heavy so there's a delay TO Okay we'll start selling individual cells, VMS,etc TO we'll now make ebike softpaks TO ooh man you guys ask too many questions so we're dropping ebikes all...

    LiFePO4 Battery Showdown!

Uhhmmm Don aren't you forgetting us 48v guys? :? How about 24v modules? :D j/k Looks simple enough to do our own with the threaded ends.

    LiFePO4 Battery Showdown!

Hmmm 2 of those packs would be perfect for my setup. 48v 20ah. That VMS will come in handy for my PSU if I get distracted doing something else, it'll start beeping reminding me turn the charger off. Nice. Hope it balances cells too.

    LiFePO4 Battery Showdown!

yeah it sure sucks over here right now, i can't go riding without inhaling whole bunch of ash into my lungs. Plus there is a new fire that broke about twenty miles away. Cant wait for the wind to ease up and get some on shore flow.

    LiFePO4 Battery Showdown!

Don, I have a Mastech PSU that is CC/CV Here's the link: http://shop.vendio.com/evan2002/item/818330695/index.html This what I use for my A123 packs. The only gripe I have is that I got to carefully monitor the charger and stop the charge myself when the current hits a certain point, or else...

The care and feeding of a123-based packs...

True. Plus, A123 already sells RC-based packs even before the Dewalts came out. Unfortunately, the RC packs and Dewalt packs still have not driven down prices. Thank God for Ebay.

Pictures of a new geared hub motor in the pipeline.

I tried sending a message to Mark via his website asking if he ships to the US but didn't get a reply. I guess the send a message link is no good, couldn't wait so I ended up buying another 406. But I'm interested on getting a newer Puma with disc brakes put on a 2nd bike by the end of the...

    Eonyx System or A123 builders

Just got an email reply from Electric Rider basically saying that their 48v info is not available yet and will be updating the site once the packs arrive. Current limiting by BMS and are not sure of the C rating on the cells. Their first shipment is sold out and the buyers are aware of the...

    Custom A123's almost here!

Yeah that's that plan I was thinking about for the next time I use the bike, using only 10.5ah of the rated 11.5ah capacity. And of course watch the voltage just in case. :) Yup. A123's are sure pretty darn expensive, even @ $100 shipped from ebay, but they perform as advertised. BTW, thanks...

    Custom A123's almost here!

A123 Update: Just did an almost full discharge of the packs last friday. I rode for about 23mi and used 10.7ah. Barely made it back home. I purposely used alot more motor than I normally do, frequent full throttle. Had the LVC @48v on the Cycle Analyst. First the packs performed excellent and...

    Eonyx System or A123 builders

Electric Rider changed their description on their Eonyx packs. They are now LiFePO4 chemistry with a life expectancy of 1600-2000 cycles. Looks like the capacity is lowered to 20ah, but the pack is only capable of 2C cont and 3C max? :? :? :? Still the same price though.

    Custom A123's almost here!

Wouldn't charging at 250mah rate take forever to charge a 8s5p pack? But yeah, I do plan to balance the packs every 10 cycles or less, especially if I almost deplete the packs. But on the Mastech psu when do I stop charging? When the amp current drops to 1A or 2A like on the video? I read...

    Custom A123's almost here!

The Mastech HY5020E PS will be arriving soon. Just want to clarify some charge settings before starting so I don't screw up. Without the balancers I will be charging the two 8s5p packs separately @ 20A and setting voltage to 28.8v(3.6v/cell). So do I stop the charge when the current hits...
