    Regen killed my controller...

I forget the world is mostly powered via lithium these days. I still use lead acid 'cause I prefer it. Four 12v 15 amp agm in series...almost 36 lbs. Never before had a problem. Spade connections... Actually my screwup for not securing the connections better. In a hurry to play...

    Regen killed my controller...

Out for a ride, coasting down a long gradual hill. Unknown to me the + connection had come loose from the battery. Motor/generator tried to charge the controller. Called my Brother to pick me up in his truck. Ordered a new controller and soldered the battery connections. ...and that's the name...

Thanks Chalo...front hub motor IS better...

Yeah...I'm scared enough to put 4 torque arms on it if I could. Rode for a couple miles yesterday and everything looks OK. I wish the old AmpedBikes torque arms were still available. I still have one that I got from Danny years ago.

Thanks Chalo...front hub motor IS better...

Tried another chain drive motor...Torque steer still sucked. Finally bowed to a wiser mind and bought a 750 watt front hub and controller. Pretty thing... I had to turn the motor around as it ran well but backwards. I put two torque arms on the aluminum fork and time will tell how it holds up...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Of course you're right Chalo; my condescending friend. :D It's just a matter of beefing up the integrated aluminum fork dropouts with steel and maybe it'll have reverse capability also. I really don't want to change out the fork altogether as the steering is tied into it. Other than the fact...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

If anyone's interested...Here's what I have so far... Bike insist on turning left due to the torque on the right wheel. And the chain jumps off the motor sprocket. Going to try a smaller 500 watt motor and controller. If that doesn't work well, there is another thing to try before I go back...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Whaddia think about this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOt42fO4QXU I may give it a try. Move the motor wheel up under the seat and jack it up a bit. Should be able to utilize reverse also and keep life interesting for a while. ------------- Waitaminut, waitaminut...Just lock in the trailer so...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Aluminum. ...and there really isn't much weight distribution to the front. It would probably just throw a bunch of gravel at the driver. I suppose it's possible to build a steel set-up on the front, make a fender and buy a big and heavy hub motor. Maybe next year. I'm having fun experimenting...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Lesson learned... One CAN have too much torque. Test drove my trike with the 1800 watt chain drive motor,48v 2000 watt controller and 9 tooth to 74 tooth ratio. Drive wheel (right) took over and the bike just wanted to run in left hand turns. After fighting it for a hundred feet or so, it...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Yeah, I get that a lot. :D Just for fun I may hook up that reverse switch some of the newer controllers have.

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Thanks Chalo... I like these batteries and have many fun runs with my Grandkids on various of my builds. I top off after even short run and these batteries last forever. The long recumbent was 48v 20a lifepo4 powered that Ping built in two parts for me. inoperative now...may switch to agm if I...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Sorry for the unclear information.. 4 12v 15 Amp Hour AGM batteries, dc brushless 48v 1800 watt motor, 48/72v 2000 watt 45a controller. I forgot how precise the info must be for accurate diagnostics. Not really concerned with run time or speed...torque is important as I'm 6' 4" @ 250 lbs and...

    48v 15amp sla battery pack & 1800w controller...

Thanks folks for the replies. Yeah, it's a bit of a reach but I got such a great deal on the motor/controller; I thought I'd try it. I'm redoing my trike to get rid of the push trailer and hub motor. Backing up is a pain in the "tuchus". I knew the motor and controller were potentially too...

    Please help! Charger failure!

This helped a BUNCH! Bought my first quality 48V charger and had the same problem. I had changed the output plug to match the battery. Went by the voltmeter re polarity rather than the label that indicated otherwise. Looked for answers and found this thread. Thank you S4Dz and ES. :D

Did you have to upgrade wiring or connectors?

    Lil' Stinger...Done.

16 inch front wheel (a rear wheel from a child's Schwinn chopper) to which I laced a hub motor (cut and threaded the spokes and tapped one size smaller nipples). 20 inch rear wheels from a bigger Schwinn chopper. 36 volt Ampedbikes tube battery and controller. Carries my 240lbs up my 10 degree...

Show Us Your Homemade Battery Housing

Just wanted to get my 20amps of Ping as low as possible on my home made bent. Makes a big difference. The lids have a lip only on the sides so there's air flow front to back under the lid. Cut off finishing nails on the lid fit into matching holes on the case and held on with tie down straps.

    Need for Speed?

I've fallen over on my recumbent a few times; usually coming home from the pub. I've calculated that more than 4 beers requires a 3 wheeler...so I made one. Now I can pass as a handicapped old guy rather than a drunk.

    Another "functional sculpture".

Naw, I don't feel silly. I just enjoy recycling old bikes into an interesting new configuration. Here's the last two year's efforts. The recumbent is my favorite to ride. 20 amps of LiFePo. And a bit more in proportion to my big feet & etc. Made from two mountain bikes and a BMX. No...

    Another "functional sculpture".

Yeah, lots of odd looks, but probably the sight of a 6' 5", 245lb bearded guy atop this dinky little bike and not pedaling just makes 'em laugh. :D

    Another "functional sculpture".

This year's fun. Half road bike; half BMX. Added an Ampedbikes geared motor, 15amp controller and tube battery. I know many of you like lots of speed and torque but, on this bike, this combo is perfect. I've had her up to 25mph and rode 20 miles yesterday. Nothing really to brag about but, man...

    Adding one cell to lifepo.

    Thanks bud. Makes sense. Thanks.

    Adding one cell to lifepo.

I have my battery split (by Ping) and replacing a cell would require dismantling the box I built around the batts. If I have to, I will. The "low" cell is fourth from the positive terminal. Not on the BMS side. All the cells but the one light up within 15 seconds of each other. The last one...
