    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

Bought a 15t cog from a 9 speed cassette on eBay and got to work making the aluminum parts and testing it out. Because the idler moves the chain up, the suspension is compressed by pedaling. It's not great but I don't see any way around it. Still moves around just fine. It shifts through all the...

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

At least 1kg in the last month Prototyping has never been more rapid and cheap. I can afford to print several test fits without even measuring properly. Unthinkable on the mill.

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

I lied, the drivetrain was not taken care of. The motor drive side is fine, it's just that now the motor gets in the way of the bike chain. I thought I could bring the chain under the swingarm pivot but there's no way it wouldn't rub against the side of the swingarm that way, and I would have...

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

I took this thing to about 40mph downhill before the wheel swap, and it feels much better with the heavier wheels. But adding a damper should be easy enough if I need one.

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

The drivetrain fits. Had to re-print a bunch of one part to get the chain tension right but it doesn't need any other changes as far as I can tell. Threw some 3d printed gears in there as well to play around with. Video Next step would be buying and machining parts. But I first want to have the...

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

I was going to wait until I had something more substantial to show. I haven't had much time but progress is picking back up. I think I know what the drivetrain is going to look like. I'm 3D printing test pieces now. Choosing a belt for the first stage reduction would have made the design way...

2 stage LH drive on single speed road bike

Chinesium strikes. After over 100 cycles, the battery started having issues. It would cut out while charging. Sometimes for hours at a time, sometimes rapidly on and off. If I left it on the charger it would still charge eventually so I let it be. But it kept getting worse and worse. I worried...

    4kW dropout mounted RC drive

It's a nice sound IMO. Not as loud in person as the video might make it seem. Yep, I considered it for a less steep reduction but I wouldn't be getting the most out of the motor if I spun it slower. So I went with the 146kv. Though it doesn't seem to really be 146kv. At 52v I'm only getting...

    4kW dropout mounted RC drive

I wouldn't trust it in the rain, but it can handle wet roads since I added a small mudguard on the rear. The battery should be pretty water resistant. If I enclosed the ESC and wrapped some wires, I could maybe get it weatherproof. But my friend wouldn't want to ride it in the rain anyway.

    4kW dropout mounted RC drive

I used a CNC mill to cut them out. It was a pain, I wouldn't do it again if I can avoid it. Corrugated plastic sheet. The stuff lawn signs use.

    4kW dropout mounted RC drive

I interrupted my recumbent trike build-in-progress to make an e-bike for my roommate to get to work. The two goals were maximum power to cost, and ease of operation and maintenance. I don't remember how I settled on each component. There was a lot of guessing around the power figure but I'm very...

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

I sent aps a message about their 83100SW. The ratings they have for torque, current, and voltage are almost the same across all of the different kv motors. I'll likely pick a higher kv motor for more rpms and power. Though I doubt their 200kv motor can handle 15k rpm like the voltage rating...

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

The rear shock feels pretty good to me, but I don't know much about it. Most of the options on APS' site look to be on backorder so it'll take up to 6 weeks until it ships. Though I don't know what Astro's lead times are like. And they don't provide important info like no load current and...

    RC Drive Recumbent Trike Build

I was busy presenting a project at an expo in San Francisco. Didn't make any real progress until the last few weeks. But here it is. The wheels are done. Pretty slick huh? I took it for a quick ride around and it feels great. These massive gyroscopes make it super stable at higher speeds, a...

    CV Charging Sucks?

It's called constant current because the current stays constant, opposed to holding the voltage constant. How either is achieved is irrelevant to the argument.

    CV Charging Sucks?

Well then it's just an argument about charging to 100% or not. CV is just the only good way to do that. I agree with you by the way, I don't intentionally charge li-ion past 80%. But I understand why people would.

    CV Charging Sucks?

Battery voltage jumps a bit when you start charging. It jumps by more with more current. If someone tried to charge their battery all the way with CC, charging would stop when the inflated voltage reaches the target and then the voltage would drop back down after current stops being applied and...

Electric X project - Petrol enhanced battery-electric bike.

I've got a plan for a series hybrid, though I've conceded that it isn't the best option. I'm still doing it because I think it's cool. Just using a bigger battery is almost always lighter, cheaper, and more reliable. Rc plane engines are very light, but are unreliable and expensive. Not viable...

10kW 72v Electric mini bike build

That looks the same as what those Coleman mini bikes use, and they have to change out their bearings rather frequently. I might try to see if I could use tapered roller bearings to better handle the thrust load. Just watched the video, that thing really rips. How much does it weigh? How did...

10kW 72v Electric mini bike build

Sick build! I have a similar project that will use a similar fork. Those front fork triple tree clamps usually have a pretty small hole for the shaft that goes through the stem. It doesn't seem to be the right size for typical bearings. How do you have it mounted to your stem?

    LifePO4 charging with unfiltered DC

Sounds good. I don't have anything in the works right now. Just brainstorming. I'll be sure to post if I ever start on this though.

    LifePO4 charging with unfiltered DC

Single components exist that rectify 3 phase AC. What I'm asking is if it would be theoretically possible to do this with no fltering, no voltage regulation, and no step-up or step-down converters. Just rectified ac fed straight to the battery.
