I'm about to buy an ebike with a Bafang Max Drive motor. One of the features I'm looking for is an "open" system to maximise my choice of replacement batteries in the future.
However, it seems the Max Drive requires batteries to connect a 4-wire communication cable, as well as the positive and negative power connections. I guess this is so the battery's BMS can instruct the Max Drive to reduce the discharge power when the battery's not feeling good
What kind of batteries are compatible with the Max Drive? If you plugged in a battery without the comms cable, would it work at all? If I want an "open" system, should I be looking at a bike with the Bafang BBS01B instead?
