more to follow,
I reversed the polarity at the external battery plug by mistake and the bike no longer turns on, I am going to disassemble the bike and take the boards into an electronics store for repairs so I can gain an understanding of the electronics in this bike.

actually it is the most expensive e-bike on the planet,
price STARTS with US$4000 the last time I checked , unless they dropped prices?

It's a bit higher now...http://shop.optibike.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=usvflypage.tpl&product_id=19 ...
I bought their cheapest USV model to mod :D

...pretty cool electronics, but way underpowered...will be dumping the funky head light and using another controller with external LiFePO4 batteries and a trailer with a 1000W propane generator for a long range 200+ mile offroad trip

Right on dennis!

the usv has smallest motor right? anyway, you did ride the hell out of it before tearing into it right? anyway, wondering about the noise factor? is this bike really noisy and major attention getter on the street? Keep it up, good stuff.

For that sort of money it should have foolproof battery connections and/or reverse polarity protection circuit so you can't connect it the wrong way and blow something! Maybe you can talk to the dealer about a discount to repair it?

The motor-gearbox-bottom bracket assembly looks similar to that on the Aprilia Enjoy models, they also use NiMH battery pack 24V 13AHr.
The controller on the Aprilia is potted/encapsulated so not really repairable and I think mine has a fault.
Other owners have used a generic 24V 500W brushed controller and ditched the PAS for a throttle.

So I guess that means they are Very Loud? Maybe I am idiot but yes they are or no not that bad or you get used to it or it bothers the heck out of me would be a clearer picture for me. But the best would be if someone could post an acceration type video. There seems to be alot from the handle bar but the wind masks so to me hard to tell. The you tube of opti rohloff is pretty good so props to the guy who posted that.

Sweet! The optibike is overpriced no doubt. However, that thing is the most well made ebike I know of. Introduce some volume and automated manufacturing, and I would own 10 of them:D

got to ask, did you get your opti back up? I was learning alot looking at the pics and so forth and appreciate your tinkering. Overvolt that motor and lets see if we can find the sweet spot in that ride. I think if the opti was able to be overvolted or if someone tried as much stuff with an opti that hub motors have! we would not be discussing anything anymore, just trying to figure out how to scrap the money together and modify for more volts! IMHO

Even the top $13,000 Optibike is a cheapo' compared to the $80,000 Blacktrail !
but the Opti' wins on looks !

Curious about his bike? Did you get back up & running? Thinking about overvolting motor? Really interested to hear your thought about circuitry, wiring, battery and so forth. Hell if you had problems, just try and use larger batt in enclosure and mount controller outside? Just an idea but would love to hear your thoughts.

Anyone know what happened to this opti? Did he get her going at 72 volt yet?

would love someone to send this to craig at opti, who says bike cannot be run at 48volt. Did you use any of their circuitry? Would love it if you could keep thread going.
