    Lithium charge controllers

Not an expert here but I've been solar charging my LiFePo4's since early 2012, and in multiple configurations (somewhat out of interest). Like others have said, if you have a charge controller that you can program the actual settings, then you should be ok. - Some controllers may not react very...

Pure Electric and Straight Diesel Tie in top MPG!

Ok, so the 84 mpg carburetor was not at the GGP so probably not necessary to lump that in with this event. My experience with the Green Grand Prix (unlike the 'Eco Challenge' you mentioned) is with real mpg numbers with cars you do see on the street. Did you check out the photos on their...

Pure Electric and Straight Diesel Tie in top MPG!

Hi Dauntless, The owner of the decomposing car in California decided to sell the wheels from that car - I acquired and refinished them them. They weren't used at the Green Grand Prix due to their excessive weight. That car is the original, #2 in in Nashville, Tenn (Lane Motor Museum), mine is...

Pure Electric and Straight Diesel Tie in top MPG!

Hi Folks! Thought maybe you might enjoy this story if you hadn't already run across it. On Friday April 11th, 2014 at the Toyota Green Grand Prix, a pure electric and a straight diesel tied for the most fuel efficient prize at 200+/- mpg! There were over 40 cars (privateers, universities...

how would i charge my lifepo4 using solar?

I have had very good luck solar charging lifepo4 directly using a spare Outback MX-60 charge controller. You can run a variety of pack voltages, and incoming panel voltages. This controller (and others out there), allows for you to set the output voltage, amps, and a few other things if you're a...

    Elite Power batteries

Have been using the GBS 20ah (12v x 4 = 48v pack) for about 2 years now. I liked the first batch well enough that I bought a second batch for the lawn mower. I like these batteries alot and they will drop-in to the Go-One, the Lawn Mower and even the house! I have not had any balancing issues...

    Kinetic Max 100-MPG Turbo-Diesel

-- Yes it is bit on the smaller side. Where I work, there is a piece of colored tape 41 inches on the wall... When people realize this is the roof height they look in disbelief - it seems almost absurd! ---Tags, lights, etc? What? Oh great so I now I have even more things to do. Kidding aside...

    Kinetic Max 100-MPG Turbo-Diesel

Thanks BATFINK. I have been all over the place with the velomobile. It has really worked out well. I've branched out with the lithium and the exact same packs will swap into my lawnmower! This summer has been great weather-wise but I'm knee deep into yet another project that has taken away from...

    Kinetic Max 100-MPG Turbo-Diesel

I'll bet the owner of Kinetic Max is having a ball! There is nothing like driving your own creation and achieving a goal. Kudos to Max. Last I read, Kinetic Max had turbo charged the Kubota triple 1100cc - I beleive the one they started out with. The story / history can be viewed here and is a...

Photovoltaics not putting out enough amps.

"I would never expect anywhere near rated capacity from any panel, because unless you're in a lab under completely controlled conditions, you are unlikely to ever get the conditions needed to see those ratings." ----Maybe depending on the panel quality, but my experience is much different. In...

Photovoltaics not putting out enough amps.

shawname, Is your Xantrex the type with the small knob type adjustment pots inside? If so make sure the bulk and float adjustments are correct. These adjustments will affect what the batteries see from the panels. ~CrazyJerry

Photovoltaics not putting out enough amps.

Depending on the distance from the panels to the controller you may be getting a voltage drop. Make sure the wire is heavy enough (since you are wired in parallel and amps are combined thus you need a heavier wire, and, you are running a relatively low voltage). As a side note, You can use...

    Kinetic energy storage system.

Interesting idea. My woodsplitter has a couple of flywheels and they only rotate around 350 rpm. The energy they store is very short term but nearly unstoppable in this application.. http://www.diesel-bike.com/Wood_Splitter/Videos/ElectroSplit1a.wmv ~CrazyJerry
