Good points. From a car replacement standpoint the heavier the cargo the lighter I want the bike and trailer to be. You're right though, the weight savings of splitting the battery pack would probably only shed a few lbs and the Bafang Ultra is definitely capable of handling the higher power...
Yeah currently 30A max stock controller... brings up a good point though I'll likely try a controller upgrade soon (probably Archon x1) which can go up to 45A.
Can you elaborate a little more on why to avoid using two packs. How about using a medium size pack paired with a smaller pack? The...
Can't be certain about the cell authenticity at this point, but I've bought a few battery packs from this company and feel pretty confident they wouldn't jeopardize their brand reputation using counterfeits.
Can you elaborate on 'failure is always 90% BMS'? Is it more likely that the BMS would...
Please help clarify the main cause of premature failure for a potted 52v 12ah (Samsung 30Q) eBike battery pack.
It's been having trouble balancing but with some patience it can get up to 58.6v, then rests at 58.4v the next morning (sometimes dips closer to 56-57v after sitting for a day or...
So far v2 has almost a hundred responses. The average score is 30 wh/mi. Still seems a bit high but I'll have to look through the responses and see if some of the question weights need to be reduced.
I published a calc walk-through / 500w range test vid: https://youtu.be/SZgveHK-wJo

No formulas on the step 1 'Efficiency Score' form - it's basically just a quiz that tallies points and gives an estimated Wh/mi. Each point adds a Wh/mi. You can see the amount of points for each response after clicking the 'view score' button on the form. It also gives an option to see all the...
I just updated the original page with a v2 version of the quiz form.
... got some good feedback over on Reddit and about 50 quiz responses. The average Wh/mi score was 37 which seemed way too high since most power responses were 250w or 500w. I think the quiz was oversimplified so I made the...
I added battery voltage but am not sure how to weigh or penalize it. Although increasing voltage will increase the amount of watt hours and probably range - will the change in voltage change the energy efficiency?
You'll notice that the first responses are 0 or 1 and the last is the highest. Each point = 1 Wh/mile, which is like an efficiency penalty. We'll need to keep tweaking these.
I built a few simple eBike range calculators last night in an attempt to include the 'impossible to account for' range factors, and spit out a more realistic battery capacity need and range expectation.
Please give it a try and let me know if it makes sense and/or how we can improve it...
sorry to switch us back to heat concerns, but I'm planning to regrease my Ultra - what grease are y'all recommending to keep this bad boy cool? I'm in TX so it's usually dry and summer highs are consistently over 100°F.
I bought some Mobilgrease 28 mostly because the SHC100 wasn't available at...
Awesome, that sounds like a great upgrade. I just reached out on their website contact form for details. What voltage are you running it at? Do you know if they'll do that upgrade with any Ultra or only motors purchased through them?
