    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

OK, finally back to update the build. After obsessing for months on the build my brain began to hurt trying to 'see' what had to happen to tie it all together so I figured a break to wait for the last of the main components was due, especially since the BMS I ordered from Ali Express was going...

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Hi mannydantyla, Thanks for the new interest, I've been meaning to get back with my progress after a bit of a break. I took the opportunity of the pandemic to focus on.. very little but the building of my bike...for months! Then things like daily chores, work and money started to become issues...

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Back again with progress on the lights and switches. The bracket rearrangement on the head light is so far a success. brackets came off well enough, and I used a sharpie to mark where they needed to line up for mounting And it worked! kinda surprised myself - it was a slow...

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Right, good point, less energy I understood but I didn't think it backwards enough to a smaller supply; and I'm learning space/weight is a key factor on small EV's, and good deal just swapping the bulb, I can still use these Perfect. The headlight is proving to be a bit more of an...

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Yes I'm wrapped up in it! Started working on the wiring for the lights and the rest of the 12V system. Most of it should fit inside the headlight shroud like the original so that's good. I plowed through the infamous Yuba Mundo Build and was equally parts inspired and overwhelmed with it...

    Kelly Controller 12V

Yup, that exactly covers it, so no grounding to the frame for me. I kinda wondered being all electric, but I never considered the fact that the frame includes the axles and since the rear one is part of the motor...yeah, no. Thanks, that's what wasn't clicking about the different brake inputs...

    Kelly Controller 12V

Yes, I've been reading a lot of threads about using a 12V converter to run all the lights. It makes it (relatively) easy setting up wiring for all the lights, 12V out/ through switches/ to lights/ and back. I searched basic motorcycle wiring for bunches of schematics to look at and with only...

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Good info, thanks. With these modules I figured I could get going with one big block, that I could split up at a later date, as a separate project/upgrade. I've thought about a V of sorts ?? Going for a keep it simple stupid approach at this point to keep from getting to overwhelmed with what...

I think your probably right there, and to be honest after my wife laughed she said, 'well, maybe if was steampunk' :|. Cool pic's I think I even saw one with a leaf module and bike seat.  Yes, I might need more than 1 cover to swap out depending on the occasion 8)

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Yeah they do! There is more clearance than it looks to the front fender...but not lots. It measures 9"x13"x14.5", that should fit the battery with space to get the wires out, hopefully! One of my original goals was to NOT have a a big box or desktop computer hanging off the frame...

    Kelly Controller 12V

Good question, I was wondering the same thing as I have the same controller to hook up. I've downloaded the manual but haven't gotten that far yet, (if the answer is even there). I'll speak up if I find out more!

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

Progress! Tire arrived and wasn't super hard to install, I went with the zip tie method. Hardest part was finding a 90deg. valve stem since there wasn't room for even the shortest straight one. Since the tire was a little narrower then speced for the rim getting it seated took a little more...

    72V 45Ah, gen2 Leaf module - First battery build

Ah, I get now, thanks, -no better way to learn then making the wrong choice out loud :thumb: Yes, I believe so, I purchased them from Greentec auto who tests each module (4cells 2s 2p) for current (todays) capacity, marks it on them (can see the stickers to the right of the contacts in the...

    72V 45Ah, gen2 Leaf module - First battery build

Hello all, starting a thread for the battery I’m going to use to power my conversion of an old Honda motorbike that I’ve added a QS 4000W V3 16” hub motor to. The controller I will be hooking it up to is a KLS-7245N rated at 350A, but I realize from my reading that I probably won’t be able to...

    1962 Honda Benly goes electric

I'm back for an update: Swing arm is finished, repainted and reattached! A new tire is on it's way, that will hopefully just fit right in side the wheel well. The tires that were on it were 3.5 x 16, and the new wheel spec's a 110-90 x16 which is 4.33" wide and too close for comfort for...
