Ovalized chainrings are back in style, no? While I suspect some of this variance is caused by cooling differences within the filament layers due to infill/print direction, the majority will be due to discrepancies in the steps/software rounding errors between the X and Y axis on the...

@Skaiwerd: Awesome work on that pulley, very cool of you to send that out! @FZBob: Another idea for a cheap/easy belt idler without having to modify your existing motor mount, just need to pick-up 3 624 Bearings (4mm Id, 13mm OD, 5mm width)and use one of your existing motor mounting bolts...

Two great free programs: Onshape and Fusion 360 Onshape is browser based and works on just about any machine, but the free version requires all of your designs to be visible to other users- no private storage. Onshape was the first parametric cad program I used, I still use it to share...

Thanks for that video, SlowCo- first time I've seen it. Hope they upload some actual product/action videos shortly, It looks pretty fantastic. As to a crank mounted 3D printed directly driven via motor pinion- that was what I was cryptically referring to when I posted the "another way (or two)...

    Calling all Belt Drive Experts

Just went down the rabbit hole on Tom Stanton's Ebike build series on YouTube; he's been finding great success with 15mm wide HTD5M belts (up to 1500mm length) and large 3D printed pulleys- his latest V4 configuration shows him running peaks of 4kw through the above mentioned set-up. Here's the...

Thanks for posting your single reduction set-up, it has inspired me to chase the lightweight/low-power set-up dream again... I'm certainly no expert, but I've been tinkering around with 3D printed HTD5M pulleys and #25 sprockets for a few years on various esk8 and other LEV projects. I think...

VexPro Ball-shifted 2 speed, Left Side Drive Project

Check this thread out: http://www.electric-skateboard.builders/t/choosing-the-right-motor-kv-for-the-vesc/3125 It appears 190kv may be pushing these new revised guidelines a bit too far. I've got a faulty DRV on my VESC right now after running 10s on a 245kv motor- this is a theoretical erpm of...

Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

I get zero squeak with these new belts, problem solved. If you buy cheap belts, expect some squeaking. PETG pulley is holding up very well, easily over a hundred miles on it and no worse for wear. Even the little rocks and glass shards I pick out of the grooves seem to have little impact.

Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

I changed my belt to a Vex Pro and squeaking has been significantly reduced. It was dead silent initially and now, after about 20 miles on the new belt, I get a little squeak when I squish it, but not noticeable when riding. I'll keep testing...

Aluminum extrusion subframe build- Prototyping Deck

Got my VESC back from chaka about 2 weeks ago and it is very nice to replace the FVT. The vesc lacks a little grunt on start-up compared to the FVT, but having reliable brakes, the nunchuck and FOC greatly makes up for it. I've been running 10s lipo for the last couple of days and boy does that...

Guys running printed pulleys- do your belts squeak?

Mine started out quiet too, but after a few rides the squeaking began. Keep us posted either way! I still haven't changed mine out- need to dry out some nylon...

A thru-the-gears serial drive- KISS, COTS, No FW cranks!

Final drive comes off the 16t track cog and routes between the tire and the chain stay. You were very keen to note that there is not a lot of clearance for this, made even worse by the "S" bend chainstays on this frame. The kona has straight shot chainstays and the drive side is even lowered a...

VexPro Ball-shifted 2 speed, Left Side Drive Project

I stumbled upon vex robotics website over the winter, probably following some rabbit hole that started somewhere here on the sphere- can't remember now. Anyway, check out the Vex Pro portion of their website: http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexpro/?ref=logo. They've got tons of cool goodies for us...
