Factory Longtail Cargobikes (17 so far)

    Ebike or Emotorcycle?

Have you test ridden the Zero? Have you ridden a regular motorcycle or a scooter at your proposed speeds for an hour straight? I ask because I've done all and wouldn't push a bicycle to 80mph. The Zeros rode pretty much like any regular 250 to 500cc motorcycle during my test rides. I felt as...

    Front handlebar bag

So far I've found 2 bags in local bike shops that are hard cases covered with cloth and mount with clamps rather than straps. That combination could be ideal, but both are too narrow. I guess modifying an existing bag with an internal box might work. I already envision padding and straps inside...

    Front handlebar bag

I'm sort of messing around with options. I know the frame is best for a low center of gravity, but I'm more or less trying to keep this as regular bike like as possible. I'll probably try in-frame next to compare balance and looks. One of my current non-electric rides has a large front basket...

    Front handlebar bag

I'm hoping to buy a handlebar bag to test if my handling differs from my current rear motor/rear battery set up. The battery, wires, controller and the current rear bag only weigh 12 pounds, so its not too much for the rear. I'm just experimenting. However, the local shops have a poor...

    morons selling ebikes...

Although several of you here are advocates of "showing this guy the light" and improving the kind of ebikes sold with education, I fear its wasted on a salesmen making a quick buck. This ebike ad reminds me of the Chinese scooter ads that started in earnest about 3 years ago on Craigslist. Some...

    alum. frame

I have yet to find such a bike in my area for a used price of $500. They're most often asking near $1000.00, which is a lot for a used bike that's going to be converted to electric and very well may have been ridden hard. Also, I find your "real" bike concept fairly insulting. The Roundhouse...

    alum. frame

I recently converted a Dawes Roundhouse 2500 to an ebike. Mine is a much smaller sized motor (500W geared with 48V LI ion battery) than you're proposing. I use a single torque arm from Amped Bikes. So far there's no problems with it electromechanically in the 200 or so miles I have on it. I'm...

    Another dead cyclist!

A number of different studies indicate that the increasing number of bicycles on the street decrease accidents and fatalities. It seems paradoxical at first, but it appears that drivers become more aware of bikes and cause less damage to them when there are more bikes around. There seems to be...

kmxtornado's first e-bike conversion build thread *photos*

You get what you pay for. But you're in the relatively ebike friendly city of San Francisco, so why not hit the local shops and ask (beg) around among the local riders/builders for test ride?

(iZip Zuma) vs (Pedego Cruiser) vs (Prodeco Phantom X)

Yes, the bike has 7 gears. But that's entirely different from a "geared motor'. The Phantom X has a gearless, direct drive, hub motor.

kmxtornado's first e-bike conversion build thread *photos*

I have a geared motor kit from Amped bike running a 48V battery from Chicago Electric Bikes. I spent around $1100 or 1200 for the kit, battery and a decent used Schwinn. There was no real difference in price between front and rear hub motors. I also recently bought my Dad a $1400 factory...

kmxtornado's first e-bike conversion build thread *photos*

It all depends how you ride the scooter vs. the bike. I just sold my 50cc Honda Scooter. It was hopped up to do mid 40's, so it was a little more like a 125cc than the average 50cc. I used it primarily for commuting and assembled the ebike for a similar commute. I put off immediately selling my...

(iZip Zuma) vs (Pedego Cruiser) vs (Prodeco Phantom X)

So they removed the front shock, didn't include a seat post suspension like the older models, and raised the price $500. It doesn't look nice enough to justify the difference. I'm glad I bought one for my dad before the change. He's been happy with it and if the brakes eventually need upgrading...

Altona woman dead after electric bicycle collides with truck

That seems to be a key, though it seems paradoxical to some, part of the safety equation. More bikes apparently correlates with less car-bike accidents. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/09/080903112034.htm

    KR rides a Pi

Your idea of sexy is the one Ducati most derivative of generic Japanese crotch rockets? Its a Ducati, its not supposed to look like a Suzuki. You could at least've picked the Hyper Motard. Even the Monster is much, much sexier (though you'd probably be too busy claiming it was a "girl's bike").

    KR rides a Pi

You're quite wrong about scooters not being sexy. The Honda Ruckus and Yamaha Morphous/Maxam are undeniably sexy even without the naked chick (though tons of chicks-on-Rucks pics are online if that's your taste).

    Aqua-Xtracycle

I think they didn't go full out for this. Why use a foot pump to inflate the pontoons when they could've mounted an electric compressor? :D

Altona woman dead after electric bicycle collides with truck

I wish it was just teenagers. A lot of the anti-bike drivel on comment boards is clearly written by adults as they complain about taxes, mentioned work, and make belittle in very adult ways. Teenagers can be excused a lot of the time, adults are just assholes.

Altona woman dead after electric bicycle collides with truck

Unfortunately, outright hatred is par for the course these days in comment sections of news reports of bicyclist deaths and injuries. Bicycles are small, slow, and spindly vehicles in comparison to just about anything else on the road, yet they bring out something fundamentally insecure and...

Complete e-Bike Kit for $500 shipped?

I'm no Amped bikes apologist, but I have 750 miles of near daily riding on my Amped bikes geared drive kit and have no problem at all with the free wheel. The busyness is another matter, though one reason I didn't buy from cell_man was has busy he was and long it took to get back to me.

Complete e-Bike Kit for $500 shipped?

Your relatively low power requirements are below what most people here on ES are running. Nothing wrong with that, just different needs. On more to consider, the Currie kits (http://www.currietech.com/currie-technologies-izip-conversion-kit1.php). Old tech and not exactly powerful, but well...

Complete e-Bike Kit for $500 shipped?

Ebikekit.com has complete kits for under $600. Ampedbikes.com has very good kits for under $500. Both are reputable. However...a BIG however...that's for heavy and short life span SLA batteries. They certainly can work for your short commute. But lithium batteries will last much longer, weigh...

How to make a frog battery stealthy?

Put the battery in a regular bicycle top bag or bicycle panniers mounted on the rear rack. I put my battery in one of these: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1023681_-1_1596009_20000_400103
