Build two wheel drive without cycle analyst

My current bike packing rig is a Surly Big Dummy with aBBS02 mid drive and a Q128 slow wind geared hub up front. It’s a heavy awkward beast but the nicest ride ever. This is my third iteration of dual motors on this bike and the best so far. I run the mid drive all the time in pedal assist mode...

video is about removing controller on a LECTRIC ebike of the same folding configuration. I’m pretty sure your controller will be in the same place.

Universal PAS sensor converter - arduino project.

I’ve always wondered if wireless pressure transducers like those used in automotive tire valves could be attached to bike pedals in a way to gauge how much force the rider is putting into pedaling. It would be a way to achieve torque sensing pedal assist.

    Just a still alive note.

Good to have you back Dan. You may have gone to the dark side but we know you still have a wealth of knowledge for us electron lovers. Pop in and share your wisdom whenever you can.

What kind of safety measures do you take when building battery at home?

Funny, I never thought about having to purchase packaged sand but I’m a desert dweller and it isn’t hard to find here in Arizona. It doesn’t need to be pure, any loose dry dirt will smother a fire. Yes those are the bamboo sticks I use. very handy to have when soldering or spot welding small...

solar panel wired direct to a brushed motor?

Interesting project Jared, hope to hear how it works. My thought is that adding a small battery to the circuit to buffer the fluctuations in solar output would help protect the motor from heating up in near stall conditions and provide a bit smoother and more predictable performance.

E-bikes are arguably worse than electric cars

I put together my first ebike back in 2010. It was a Walmart granite peak mountain bike with a front hub motor and 30 pounds of lead on the rear rack. It was an ungainly piece of crap but I immediately fell in love with the feeling of cruising silently and getting some exercise without giving...

    Folding Triple Motor All-Purpose E-Bike

It would be interesting to know how you regulate the three motors. Are they linked to a single throttle? I have dual motor Big Dummy cargo bike with a BBS02 mid drive and a geared front hub. I couldn’t get the two motors to play well together using a shared throttle so I set it up to use pedal...

Got busted for riding my ebike

Fechter, as another victim of too many calendars past, I’m hoping you will elaborate on the success of the mobility device excuse. Would it help to carry a letter from a MD? There are places where the rules change on fire roads and trails as they cross jurisdictional boundaries and you can find...

    KT display overheating issues?? Help!

Sounds like the battery is out of balance and the BMS is shutting it off under load. The display will stay on for a short period of time until the capacitors bleed off. When you let off the throttle the BMS resets.

Longest Bike Trail In The USA

Thanks for posting Reloader, that looks like an interesting trail that I wasn’t aware of. I may have to put it on my bucket list. If you make the ride I would like to read about it from an ebikers perspective. Things like camping spots, distances between charging locations, trail conditions etc.

What kind of safety measures do you take when building battery at home?

I have always assembled the parallel cell groups first and set them aside until all of them are ready for the final assembly in series. These individual groups are less than 4.2 volts and can handled without gloves. It isn’t until you start connecting then in series that there starts to be a...

What kind of safety measures do you take when building battery at home?

A metal oven tray isn’t a good idea. You need a nonconductive work surface and as much as possible nonconductive tools. A bucket half full of sand on the floor next to you might be a good idea. I found that ordinary bamboo shish ke bab skewers are the handiest items to have around. I use them to...

Longest Bike Trail In The USA

As far as I’m concerned the rail trails and other dedicated trails that prohibit motorized vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles etc) are a godsend. I was hit and nearly killed 2 1/2 years ago right out here on Hwy 89, yes that’s been my user name since I joined this forum. It took many months to...

Can I route wires around TSDZ2 motor?

I would be more concerned about damage to the wires from snags, rocks, water and mud than from heat. Along with all of the above hazards they are getting plenty of air cooling.

Longest Bike Trail In The USA

I’m working on it. I rode the stretch through Maryland and West Virginia two summers ago and from Montana across Idaho last year. Lots of credit to the Rails to Trails organization for working with the various jurisdictions and linking these trails into a continuous route. It would be a dream...

    Problems with pswpower.com

Having problems with a new TSDZ2 motor purchased from PSWPower.com. Does anyone have a good contact number or email address that works from the USA? EDIT: It turns out that the funky email address on their website actually works (2831684296@qq.com) I got a reply from Alice and through the course...

    Recommendations for mirrors?

Two years ago I was hit from behind and nearly killed. It was two months until I could walk and six months before I tried to ride a bike again. I’m still working on getting past the PTSD and being able to ride on roads again. I completely lost the hearing in my right ear and now wear a set of...

    Dual motor single throttle

I cannot get the new Bafang BBS02 and the Q128 front motor to operate using a shared throttle. In fact I can’t get the BBS02 to operate with any throttle other than the one that came with it. What I have discovered is that if I ride using the PAS on the mid motor, I can add a little power...

    Dual motor single throttle

The question is, does the throttle circuit on the Bafang mid drive behave the same as an ordinary hall throttle? +5v —-ground with a control voltage somewhere in between depending on throttle position. If so, it should be able to control both motors. I know it works well on two hub motors.
