    Horizontal thumb throttle

Has anybody found an electric equivalent of this thumb throttle?

And that's exactly what it was - thanks to Mike & Justin - you have to plug the throttle in to CA not controller. Just been out for first proper ride... motor eats hills - in fact it will want to wheelie on the steeper stuff. Again, thanks to those who've helped me along the way.

Sure thing :) Thanks to you and rest of folk here for continued patience and advice.

Yeah, if you recall, I went through all combinations of phase and hall wires, and with both phase and halls set to cross over the blues and greens, the motor didn't spin at all. Attached are the results I had (one thing I didn't note was direction of spin). I was bench testing at about 48v and...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Thanks Mike - I assumed it would tighten under load so pressed on. First test ride - short vid clip (excuse my knees and poor angle of CA) Looks like the hall \ phase set up may have com back to haunt me. Hardly moving at full throttle, slight hill defeat pretty much brought me to a...

Working before - there was no before - this is first fit. Cranks spin freely. However, the large drive belt pulley had unscrewed itself down its freewheel and catching - thanks for idea Darren. I assume that this freewheel is loaded in the tightening direction under load?

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Hi folks Got an issue that I can't work out what's not right - hoping someone can give me some pointers... As you'll see in the video, turning the crank is pretty stiff and lumpy (like it binds and releases). Have tried with chain from jack shaft tighter & looser - doesn't seem to make any...

There's a spacer with the BB - intended for LH or RH side?

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Thanks Mike. I found this vid - http://youtu.be/HSRS_rn5fEA and bizarrely, my original was the other way round. Your BB does indeed screw in okay from the RH side with the left handed thread. <line removed after realising I'm a dumb-ass>

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Hi all. Not sure if I'm assembling BB correctly here... Original has cap on drive side that unscrews (in the opposite direction). The the BB unscrews as a unit from non drive side (regular direction). Once loosened, happily unscrews with fingertips. Am assuming that LR replacement screws in...

Thanks guys. I dropped a line to Edward with a link to my bench run vid, and he concurs.

Okay, noted. Battery upgrade shortly. So I'm feeling perceived wisdom is to go with the 30W configuration?

Being a noob, I did check with Mike before buying batteries. He said he runs exact same himself.

    LightningRods mid drive kit

I'll take 30W if it's right. Was lead to believe that it should be more like 150W when running motor only. Initial run with belt on seemed slow. I took belt off again to check wattage and when I saw 30W, went back to emayan's video - and it's definitely spinning substantially slower than that.

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Phase yy bb gg Halls yy bg gb runs at 30W. To be completely honest, I didn't take notice of motor direction at the time, but looking back at my video, yes, motor is rotating counter clockwise.
  17. C

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Yes it's turning widdershins (counter clockwise) at 550W. If I put 78W in text file, it was an error (rechecked - it was - and motor spinning backwards with this combo too). I get 30W(ish), 550W(ish) and > 700W. At 30W, motor is very slow compared to 550W. And also significantly slower compared...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

At 550W - yes - obviously not as quiet as at the 30W level - but then it's spinning a helluva lot faster
  19. C

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Okay, attached txt doc shows results x being not spinning. 30W - slow speed. Lowest wattage for fast is 550W - is this okay?

    LightningRods mid drive kit

If it was easy, everyone would do it  That's a good idea. In the meantime, is my route to try all 36 combinations (I think that's the right number) of phase and hall wire combinations, and find which runs fast \ smooth & at around the 150w mark?

    What constitutes a "puffy" lipo

Thanks guys - bench testing at moment - will use it on first test rides once up and running, and monitor closely. If it gets any worse, it's history

    Getting somewhere... Halls G-B, B-G, Y-Y | Phase B-B, G-G, Y-Y slow 30w Halls G-B, B-G, Y-Y | Phase B-G, G-B, Y-Y doesn't spin Halls B-B, G-G, Y-Y | Phase B-B, G-G, doesn't spin (nosiy too) Halls B-B, G-G, Y-Y | Phase B-G, G-B, Y-Y spins much faster, 550w Based on comments for your vid t0me...

Phase wires colour matched. Halls greens to blues, yellow to yellow. Tried colour matching them - doesn't spin at all.

Lyen controller for LR's kit. In terms of swapping connections, are there specifics to try? With 5 hall and 3 phase, the number of possible combinations is pretty high.

    What constitutes a "puffy" lipo

I bought 4 turnigy nano-tech batteries last year, ready for my LR kit build. First time out of the packaging yesterday, and 1 of them is very slightly soft on one side - say 1mm squidgy. Does this constitute a "puffy" battery, and therefore should be treated as suspect?
