    mongoose cx450 Project

Yeah I got some better forks, find my build thread. The head tube on my new forks is like 9.5 inches and it is still about 1/4 inch too short, I am going to tear it down and cut off 1/4 inch from the frame. I am still waiting for my batteries :( but it is winter so I haven't even ridden except once.

To gear or not to gear, that is the question.

I am of the opinion that gearing puts the finishing touches on an ebike as well as makes it illegal , it is way too easy to go over 20 mph with gearing. Of course having 20hp on a ebicycle is crazy and no gears are required but the practical ebike with 3hp and two or three speeds seems to be...

Fitting freewheels to splined freehub drivers

Wonderful piece of work there. I was reading your conversation about dealing with the bike shop, we have a BMX specific bike shop near boulder, joes bikes. I went in there trying to solve the drive problem explained my situation and it was if I was talking a foreign language. I really think...

    Hmm, Astro 3205?

An 8mm shaft is easier to deal with if you are going to do a Grinhill copy with a roller clutch... Would an 8mm shaft be big enough for a 3205? Roller clutches are much easier to find for an 8mm shaft and the smaller outer diameter is easier to fit into a pulley and still have enough material...

    16" Dahon Curve D3 w/ Driven Crank & 3-Speed Hub

Well after some digging around I found these sprockets. MOSH BMX 42t Sprocket Chainwheel ALL BLACK NOS VOXOM MID SCHOOL BMX 43T SPROCKET BLACK ANODIZE It will be much easier to just drill the hole in the middle since the 4 opposing holes should fit the adapter perfectly (crosses fingers) which...

    16" Dahon Curve D3 w/ Driven Crank & 3-Speed Hub

Hey Gary, Maybe you can have a batch made to adapt directly to 104mm chainrings so that they are even easier to use. I am going to have to modify the easy cheese but I am worried I won't get the alignment just right... Anyhow just a thought. Thanks, Joe

    mongoose cx450 Project

Yeah that is a sweet build. If you want to freak out hold the front wheel still and twist the handle bars :) What forks are you going to upgrade to or do you plan to? What are the power switch and relay rated at? I need to get something like that since my power switch is connecting the cable...

    cx450 project

Right now I am waiting for a piece to convert to right side drive, going to try a SA 3spd. I thought for sure I was just going to do the left hand drive but it was turning out to be not as advantageous as doing right and being able to put 3 speeds on it. And the battery pack is not built yet...

    Right side drive

I found this shifter for the SA 3 speed http://smartbikeparts.com/search_details.php?itm=SBP99813 And I found this 20" pre-built wheel for so cheap it sounds too good to be true. http://www.utahtrikes.com/PRODINFO-Sturmey_Archer_3_Speed_Wheel_Kit.html edit add sprocket sa 16t sprocket...

    Right side drive

OK well I suppose I will just get a nexus and find out :) I don't know the length of the shift and I also don't know if it is forgiving... I will post back here when I find out. Thanks for the ideas I will be doing one of the things you mentioned if I can't do the trigger shifter. Joe

    Right side drive

I am working out a right side dual drive to a nexus 3 speed hub (or some other 3 speed hub) and I have not seen it so I thought I would ask. Can I use a 3 speed front derailleur trigger shifter to change gears on the nexus 3 speed? Like this one...

on the hobby city page... WARNING: For some large motors, you must use High timing mode. Failure to do so will result in a burnt esc. http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4691

    cx450 project

Since the mounting spot will need a pair of angle pieces I need to go find a metal shop in Boulder, CO. Once I have those I can machine them to fit where the old motor was. I will take some pix this weekend but I am not sure if I will be working on this or the grinhill copy. I think I will...

Ok so the first controller wasn't bad, I had a cold solder joint. I really need to invest in a higher wattage iron. The solder error wasn't evident until I started to take it apart to send it back. I played with the controller settings more and the "normal" start mode works much better than...

My belt broke - motor's timing pulley isn't secure

Awe damn man sorry that the hole wasn't straight. I just purchased a drill press for that exact kind of trouble :( Total bummer on the belts as well. Hopefully the EV gods will smile on you tomorrow. As I live vicariously through your troubles I can't wait to hear about your next successes. Joe

Copy Grinhill! lil help please :)

Yeah, the second controller runs almost beautifully. I have the throttle set to very soft start and high timing. Here is a video of the motor running in a vice. I will test it with other start settings. I am really disappointed that the first controller didn't work. DBtSjjdc5OQ When I tear...

My belt broke - motor's timing pulley isn't secure

Hey swbluto, Damn, I like your scooter. I am going to have to build one... since no one chimed in with the reason it is called a timing pulley I thought I would. SO it is a timing pulley because it has teeth. The fact that you can connect a belt between two of them and guarantee that the...

Copy Grinhill! lil help please :)

Well I got the batteries and motors and esc. Plugged them all together and the motor shook back and forth instead of spins. I suppose I got a bad controller although I didn't program the controller first and it says that the large motors need high timing or the controller could fail. The new...

    Generator lighter than batteries

Yeah serial hybrid :) Just run your electric motor from an electric generator. I think it would be interesting to add a glow plug motor driving an RC motor that you can just connect up to go 30 miles. Then ride all the trails on electric, put the generator back on and ride home.

    The Grinhill Mk2 RC-motor drive

Yeah so damn nice to see someone who has owned a router for a few years! Thanks for teaching us some new tricks. I never owned a router it looks like a great tool for small machining. I do own a drillpress now FINALLY :)
