Time to build... and ask dumb questions

Thanks for the info. Before I purchase anything, I am going to dust off the NiCad packs and see if I can fix them. If not, I'll find them a new home with someone here on the forums. Until then I'll be reading (and re-reading) all these battery posts to make some sense of it all.

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

Hi Amberwolf. Well since you offered... I am trying to get caught up on the latest in the world-of-batteries since my last attempt. It is my understanding that many are building from hobbyking packs, which requires a moderate amount of knowledge/effort in charging, balancing, building, etc...

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

Two and a half years since my build and I'm back... trying to re-educate myself on how to get charged up and back in the saddle. Originally, I spent a few months riding my ebike around and commuting to work, having a wonderful time. The chargers that I originally bought from batteryspace were...

I stripped the threads on my axle... now what?

Just to update something I mentioned previously... Justin says he has decided to order some 4-series front axles in his next C'lyte order, due in February.

I stripped the threads on my axle... now what?

As of yesterday they have rear axles in stock, but not fronts. Apparently Justin even returns emails at 3:30AM Christmas night. I took a long ride today, and everything is still snug. But I may just convert it to a rear axle should anything show signs of loosening.

I stripped the threads on my axle... now what?

I went home to pick up my bike, as my brother can't sleep unless he has fixed (or broken) something each day... even on Christmas. Since I already took care of the breaking, I figured his efforts could only help. After a close inspection, he decided that some wide spacers and some Loktite would...

I stripped the threads on my axle... now what?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm taking your suggestions to my very handy brother, who will get me back on the road in no time.

I stripped the threads on my axle... now what?

First of all, season's greetings to all. Secondly... oops! I am pretty sure I did it when first installing the wheel. It didn't seem too bad at the time, as the nut was on there pretty good and didn't loosen after riding. After a couple of months of daily riding (and constantly checking...

    Does this look comfortable??

I'd be afraid of getting something caught in that little metal loop in the front... ouch.

    Demographics?

pwbset, Yeah, I work at Full Sail. I teach MIDI specifically, which is my area of expertise. I didn't think it was such a great place to work until the economy went South. Now I am quite content there, working three 12 hour shifts a week. That's gives me lots of time for being creative, doing...

    Demographics?

Fun post. I always wondered who you people are. 32, not married, no kids, no pets. I am a self-taught audio engineer and teach at a major recording school for my real job. Otherwise I am a composer, producer, and remixer with some decent credits to my name. I've had music licensed for network...

    Manufacturers/Dealers to Gravitate Towards

+1 for Renaissance (ebikes.ca) I made my (first & only thus far) purchase from them after hearing good things on this forum. They were eager to give in-depth answers to my emails before and after my purchase. Justin even wrote me a lengthy reply while on his cross continent trip.

thanks doc. I'll "cook" them for a couple of charges and report back.

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

Update: No more popping fuses and everything seems to be working just fine. My only issue now is that the batteries don't seem to have as much power as the first few charges. I'm not sure if this is typical, or if they are "settling in" or something like that. My riding habits are to pedal and...

    Buzzing for a Month!

Good info, thanks... I haven't heard that discussed here before. I'll be listening very intently to my wheel for pings and squeaks.

    Buzzing for a Month!

What does a noisy spoke sound like? I am on my fourth charge (bought everything from ebikes.ca), and looking out for loosening axle bolts and the like. So far so good, after working my way through my newbie setbacks.

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

I wasn't able to find adapters that were different than the ones I already have, so I soldered male XLR connectors on the battery packs to avoid using the male-to-male adapters. This solved the charging problem. Not sure about the fuses popping. Hopefully that problem is gone.

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

I mean my skin touching the adapters tripped the thermistors. The chargers were bought from batteryspace.com as recommended by Alison. Renaissance didn't have any 36V chargers in stock when I ordered. I verified that the pin charges and specs matched up prior to ordering. I didn't realize the...

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

Another thing that I forgot, which could be (most likely is) the entire problem, is the male-to-male XLR adapters that I got. I noticed today that when the chargers are plugged in (to the wall, not the batteries), and I touch the adapters with my hand, the charger light flashes red/green (temp...

Time to build... and ask dumb questions

Yes I am disconnecting the packs from the controller and each other prior to charging. I pulled out the original fuses that had a little 25 on them, and replaced them with ATC-25 auto fuses from Walmart. Only ones I saw that had a 25 on them. They have a clear plastic casing on them. I took...
