Hey Guys,

Been thinking about building a ebike that would be a 29er type. I noticed a lot (if not most) of 29er bikes in my local bike shops come with hydraulic disc brakes these days and was wondering how that affects an ebike build? The cost of these bikes aren't much more so I thought I should consider it.

All the ekits come with standard cable based ebrakes for just a few dollars, and don't mention hydraulic brakes. EG:

Seems like building an ebike with hydraulic brakes is for those that more really keen and or experienced and comfortable with bigger budgets?
Was thinking going with this DD kit and an Infineon controller.

Just wanted to here anyones opinion on the matter, while I wouldn't mind hydraulic disc brakes I am thinking of chucking it into the too hard basket as I don't want to have to get more creative then I need to, I don't trust my resourcefulness.

Hmm well I read most of the stuff on those tweaked search links and I have come to this conclusion.
If you are building a ebike with regen then back brakes don't matter as much, as a lot of the braking work can be done by the regen. I am going down the regen route.
If you want hydraulic you are better off just buying a proper ebike hydraulic brake from a 3rd party supplier that is like the Tektro Auriga E-Comp Hydraulic E-Brake, which supports a signal to cut motor off and regen.

Hydraulic brake on the back wheel might really be worth while on a geared motor like a MAC because you don't get regen and the freewheel design is not slowing you down at all.
