Hi folks. I recently boungt a Sturmy Archer to use with my bafang HD, but I didn't realize the axle is 8mm and my bike has 10mm dropouts width. Is there any adapter to fit the hub in my bike?

you measured the flats, shouldn't you measure the outside of the threads?

I've used nylon spacers from the hardware store. Basically just a nylon cylinder on my hub, but that was for inside the fork (changing the dropout width). You could get a copper pipe and cut and hammer it to size, but I don't think it would take the twisting torque without some wear.

So, no - probably not possible. I can't think of anything that would take the torque. If it was steel, maybe you could weld some in there and drill it out, or just weld on a new dropout.

(I can't tell if that is a rear or front dropout you are using?)

Maybe I didn't explained my sefl properly. I am trying to fit a internal geared hub in the rear of my Specialized Big Hit 3. I measured that way because it needs to fit in that position so the hub is fixed to the dropouts. The problem is that the hub axle is 8mm (on the flat side) and the dropouts are 10mm (on the flat side too), so I need 2mm less on the dropouts (or 2mm more on the hub) so everything fits perfectly. I was thinking in something like a torque arm on the dropout with 8mm width, but don't know if that part exists or how to look for it.

That is an idea.

A torque arm could work. But you would have to seat that axel in the dropout firmly, and have a well designed torque arm with at least two solid wide spread attachments to the stays. The thing that worries me is that any movement in the drop out is going to quickly wear out the dropout. That is aluminum, isn't it?

YOu can look for torque arms. ebikes.ca has some. one point of contact to the frame (one bolt) will not be enough though.

I have no recent experience with Sturmey Archer hubs, but I recall they were sold with washers to adapt the axle flats to 13/32" dropout. Shimano Alfine had them too, different but probably fitting the same. I can't see why you don't have them in the box, but they should be easy to find. Since 13/32 is not exactly 10mm, torque arm would need to be custom made unless you can find one specific.

I haven't seen anything similar in the box, but I will recheck as there is a couple of plastic bags that I haven't yet opened as they are the swifter and other parts... maybe there is an adaptor there! However, in case there is not such part included, it is good to know that they exist. I will try to contact to the maker and see if they sell that part separately. Thanks!
