My eye sight is diminishing due to a detached retina and old age. In fact, I failed my drivers eye exBrompton-am and expect to lose my license.
However, the proper ebike will keep me independant and mobile for my remaining years.

I am focused on a Brompton ebike based on its fast fold and ease of rolling after fold and small size allowing rolling into a grocer, café or store and stowing on a bus, train or airplane.

But alas, the co$T will exceed $3000 at NYCE completely assembled with hub motor and a Lithium Iron battery. But offering a choice of an airline approved lithium version

These hardly ever are sold used but would be a good solution.

You should be able to build a setup for about $1000.. maybe less, need to figure out what specs you need

Need to know how much range you will need to travel?
How much speed you want?
Do you live in a area with lots of hills?
im guessing you will need a 20 inch wheel on a folding bike, I have seen bigger tho...

How badly needed is it, to be able to take on the plane? Could you test the waters first with a more normal, and much cheaper ebike?

Not knocking the folder idea, but lots of city busses have bike racks for normal bikes. Do they in your town?

Another ebike in a second town you visit often?

good luck in your search.bromptons have 70mm fork so finding a hub motor will be challenging.also 16inch front hub motor are hard to find in that narrow width,i believe chrystalite is one of the few that i know of. i know this as i own a brompton and was going to electrfy it but have discovered that it is alot of fun to ride as is. you could get a folder with 20inch wheels cheaper than a brompton and put a hub motor on that with very little difficulty.anyhow good luck in your endeavor. 8)

Thanks for replies.
Yes, $1000 should build a nice EBrompton but as noted there is a shortage of used Bromptons which is only folder that will roll correctly after folding.(I cannot carry it too far)(If you know another folder as compact and easy to move after fold then sound the alarm)
And it will fit in an airplane overhead

i FORGOT HOW TO ADD YOUTUBE ATTACHMENTSBUT HERE IS A COPY/PASTE VERSION.
