Hippie what? Just hippie in general. One of those links is a little NSFW. But which one? They're both great for the imagination.

Hippie was 'Hepcat' in jazz, ultimately hipster, giving rise to 'Free Love,' etc. In the 1940's. They didn't draw much notice until the late 50's. The late 50' screenplay 'Billy Jack' was about hippies at a commune, which still wasn't important enough for even a low budget movie.

It always referred to young people saying they knew what it was all about. "I'm HIP."

I remember some boat parties, an acid ranch in Big Sur, and knew a few hippies that really lived in caves.

Caves are actually one of the closest natural structures comparable to the kind of environment that the 1st world expends lots of energy to create in our homes during extreme heat or cold events, or even just to keep it "comfortable" year round, without actually having to pay for a home. There's a brutal economic logic to deliberately choosing that sort of dwelling space.

Tell us more about what the hippies did with the space and how they set it up. There's something to be learned here.

You've convinced me. Once I win the lottery and I'm building some massive affordable housing neighborhood warren of crawlspaces, I'm going to call the complex 'The Cave Dwelling.' I've seen some seriously neanderthal cavern buildings, I'm sure the architecture is already mainstream.

I've been to a salt mine that literally could have had 20+ apartments built into it, which would remain a comfortable temperature without any energy expenditure year-round. All of the spaces I saw were walkable, possibly even bikeable. Albeit, that was not a natural structure, it had a climate one could live with all year round. There are caves that aren't so bad with regard to walkability, but in my location most of them are cramped and of insufficient space.

Personally, I'd be be happy to have Saddam Hussein's spider hole, or even a unabomber shack on a plot of land, but a walkable cave would be an upgrade in many respects from either.

Been to LA recently? Actually I haven't talked to anyone in the heart of it for several years, But I'm guessing you've got buildings where it's normal for there to be 10-15 in a single unit, to cover whatever $3k+/month rent they have now. Saddams' spider hole probably sounds inviting to people wishing they could have a night alone.

While there may be hippies among them, I doubt there's very many.

Why live in a cave? Pick a better location. I've spent $0 on energy for temperature control for over 20 year. Short and t-shirt weather for me year-round. When I go down to beach level I spend all my time in the water while the sun is out, but in the tropics at nearly a mile of altitude is the way to go, and you can fine tune to the climate you prefer just by going a bit higher or lower.

Here's a job tailored to the hippie, but at $10k a month and living at a vineyard.

Exactly ,

There is NO Peace and Love in a Communist/Socialist/Progressive , Revolution/Coup , nor for many generations after .

Peace and Love

Where has it gone?

Richard. (Virgin) Branson is an original Hippie.
Prior to becoming wealthy in the ‘60s he lived on an old boat on the Thames in London.
He made his initial fortune in music and moved his “commune” to a English Stately Home estate.
These days he own anything he wants, but specifically his own Carribean Island.
Basicly still living a “Hippie” lifestyle !

Richie made it to low earth orbit, but fake news states he made it to space.

Well at least I found a non fake news story
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021/jul/10/virgin-galactic-richard-branson-orbit
Branson’s extraterrestrial venture Virgin Galactic will send its space plane into sub-orbital flight on Sunday morning, aimed at reaching 55 miles above Earth at its peak altitude.

Spaceflight Unity 22 took off shortly after 10.40am ET (5.40pm BST) from Virgin Galactic’s operational base at Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert.

This was interesting to read, you say hippie, yeah that makes sense.
Branson, 70, arrived at the spaceport on a bicycle on Sunday morning and greeting his crewmates with a hug.

A spat has erupted over whether Branson’s flight really counts as going into space.

The boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space, known as the Kármán line, has been a source of controversy for years.

Aeronatics standard setter Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the Switzerland-based world body, defines the Kármán line as the altitude of 100km (62 miles; 330,000 feet) above Earth’s mean sea level, as do several other organizations.

However, US space agency Nasa says the boundary is 50 miles, or 80 km, above sea level, with pilots, mission specialists and civilians who cross this boundary officially deemed astronauts.

“For 96% of the world’s population, space begins 100km up at the internationally recognized Kármán line.”

Virgin Galactic has not engaged in the social media banter, instead promoting the launch, and hosting a question and answer thread with Unity 22 crew members, with the flight label recognizing that this will be the 22nd flight of the company’s VSS Unity rocket plane, although the first to carry space travel passengers as opposed to crew.

Branson’s spaceplane will be borne aloft by a twin-fuselage carrier jet to an altitude of 50,000 feet, where the Unity craft riding upon it will then be released and soar by rocket power in an almost vertical climb through the outer fringe of Earth’s atmosphere.

“For 96% of the world’s population, space begins 100km up at the internationally recognized Kármán line.......”
Really, ? 96% ? ....i dont recall being included in that survey ..?
And obviously NASA isnt part of that 96% either.
It sounds like sore losers crying into their milk !
Must be hard to admit being beaten to the punch by an ageing hippie ! :D
PS....the Guardian is not the most reliable of news sources .

Every news article I've seen so far (CTV/Global/CBC/) says Hippie made it to space.

I like Neil deGrasse Tysons line - "Go where hundreds of people have been before, low earth orbit."

He says the same line in some of his interviews and shows.

Yes its good for business to call it space and not
a really high flying flight in low earth orbit where hundreds have been before.
Then of course the "one small step" speech from the Hippie himself.

How does Jeff Bezo's feel being beat by the Hippie Richie.

Oh well, speaking of "Hippies"

Well “Space” / earth orbit, .. is not exactly anything new to human visits ..!
“Hundreds” have been there before also.
..and as NGT said ..”we did that over 50 years ago”

All this is just the modern day equivalent of the “African Safari” that wealthy individuals undertook in the 18th century !
