Hello,

I'm in the process of designing my next E-bike, i know the battery is going to be Lipo, and im looking at 4x 22.2v 8000mah zippys for 44.4v 16ah of battery weighing in at 6KG, unless anything better comes out in the meantime. I really want to get away from the back rack mounted battery if possible as i dont have frame mounts for a rear rack so im stuck with a seatpost mounted rack and having my current battery on there (36v 10AH at 5KG) hanging way off the back of the seatpost makes the bike feel like its got a constant flat tyre at the back and makes it hard to get on and off.

I have been searching for weeks now and i just cant seem to find any strapable triangle bags that would be big enough to house the batteries, im looking for something that would strap onto both the top tube and the seat post tube to secure it and would need to be good quality materials or hard shell. Has anyone got something like this and can tell me where you got it or know of anything that would fit my needs. I really dont have the tools or skills to design and build my own so i think im a little stuck here :(

Thanks for your time.

In that case maybe a local seamstress or a company that does fabric awnings or the like could sew you one. Hopefully someone on here will link you up with one already made though.

You could do it like I did, get a cheap "thread riveter" from you local hardware store or online, and pop rivet threads in your frame where you need them and then mount metal or plastic channels on the top bar and down tube of the frame and then simply Velcro the sides on to the edges of the channels..

Well, after all that looking i just stumbled accross a small company that does exactly what i want (albeit a bit on the pricy side but made to measure so i cant grumble)

Seems to have got some good reviews from another forum. anyone baught from these before?

I must say the frame bags look really good quality from the pictures.

Thanks guys for your info and alternative solutions :) think ill try the easy route first though lol :)

Take a look at the links above if you haven't made up your mind yet. Good luck

Nashbar used to have the big triangle bags. I got one of the last ones before they started making them smaller.

What about this thing. This looks like it would hook on the triangle. It's 11 x 10 x 3 inches. That's about as big as the one I got.

It's purple but you could probable get it in another color. All you really need is for it to hook on to the top tube and I'm sure you'll find a way to rig it so it won't slide around.

I'm working on designing a canvas bag to fit over the frame with separate pockets for each lipo battery. It will hold up to 6 lipo batteries and have outside pockets for cell logs, cycle analyst, or whatever. It will also be lockable. Then I need to find someone local with access to heavy duty sewing machine who knows hot to make patterns.

Go to goodwill or whatever, and look at the purses and soft lunchboxes.

This one holds 20s 10 ah of lipo.CIMG0204.JPG It's a lunchbox, in a small breifcase type shape.

and of course, don't forget the good ol ammo cans.

And this is why i love this forum, When you think there is no hope, somoene on here has the answer you need :) that first link is excellent, wonder if itselectric will ship to UK though lol, really like 2 of those bags and im almost certain they will be big enough for all my lipo.

Thanks alot for the links. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Dogman, I'm not sure that i would like the idea of hanging $300 of lipo off my frame in a lunchbox   . I agree that an ammo box would be a safe housing but i doubt i would be able to find one in England, not to mention the added weight :) im hoping i can still manage to carry mine up flights of stairs when its done (as i live on the 6th floor in an apartment block and if the lift craps out im up the creak without a paddle then :) )

In this particular case, it's a very stout bag. Much better than some of the battery bags I've seen for sla's.

Not a cheapo lunchbox, so that's one reason to look for it used.

Awful web site.
At the bottom of the page, they show two styles of in-frame bags,
But no info as to which one(or both)is the $40 model.
Several other pics scattered around the site.

Please keep us informed as to what you find out about any of these products.

Nashbar sells a frame bag fairly cheap. Not sure though, how much lipo it could hold.

My main preference is to build boxes. Using scavenged 1/8 aluminum sheet for the sides and wood for the bottom and ends. Easy to cut, and screw together. The wood pieces make attaching to the bike pretty easy too.

Many have frame mounted batteries of many kinds by making a kind of L shaped metal tray to support the bottom, and attaching that to the water botlle mounts. Then all kinds of ways to armor the cells, such as peel and stick floor tile, or whatever to protect the sides.

Bought a leather shoulder bag from Goodwill last January... Any ideas how to get the Goodwill-stink outta the thing? Some sort of potent mold that continues to perfume my space... :?
LoCk

i really love this place.

i have been looking for a way to mount my battery inside the frame too.

i think i will order a custom made bag for it.
not the cheapest solution, but surely one of the most elegant.

thanks for the link.

i have emailed them a few questions about a custom bag.
ill have to wait a few months till i can afford one though.

Yea, i really like the quality of the custom jobs... only problem with them are is that they have a 12 week turnaround once you place an order, so taking that into consideration i think ill try the $40 powerinmotion frame bag and if thats not up to the job then ill cough over the $150-200 for a custom job

Yeah I agree that the 12 week turn around time sucks.

And in my case it would be more like 14 weeks, since I would have
To post the frame template to them from Australia.

So I'd factor in at least 2 extra weeks for my dimensions to get there !

My battery is not as small as some. ESP the lipo setups.
My pack will only just squeeze into my triangle,
So my only option that I can see is a custom bag.

My pack is a ping 48v 15ah and it's 150mm x 105mm x 270mm
And weights 7.5kg. U can understand why I want to get it off
my rear Rack !

Jason.

Here's my "quick-and-dirty" solution:

The small frame bag holds the controller. The battery rests on a board that has two holes drilled in it to fit over the water bottle studs, and the straps hold everything together.

i finally got my frame bag !

turn around time was close to 17 weeks though !

i have to say the wait was worth it however.
the bag is really a perfect fit, and the quality is top notch.

here's a couple poor pics.
ill try to get a few better ones later this week. (the bike is in at the LBS having some alterations made)
ill get some better daylight pics once i get the bike back, and ill post a thread on the changes i made to the bike at the same time.
