"Varnish applied to a motor winding may also cause
bearings to rust when the acid generated by varnish
gas is absorbed into the grease of the bearing. Be sure
to test for this condition, and be aware that changes
in procedures, such as drying time changes, may affect
this condition." -NMB

...that sucks.

This is why i prefer chain drive... you can shield the motor from the elements and not worry 'bout rust..

You weren't planning on putting it on the copper were you? It already has varnish and more will only cause it to shed heat more slowly by decreasing the exposed surface area as it fills in gaps, and the varnish will act as thermal insulation to some extent. On the hall's pcb may be helpful. I don't know about the lamination edges. The factory puts a coating there, and it gets scrapped a bit during assembly and dis-assembly, but I doubt winding varnish would be tougher, and it could make what is there peel. I simply spray it with a lubricant/rust inhibitor in case some of the metal gets exposed. That's something I can update occasionally from the outside through the ventilation exhaust holes.
