hi

i had an idea for mounting hall sensors to the colossus 7 kW motor
i do not like the method of mounting them in the slots of the stator,
so i came up with this idea.

the new mounting flange will be mounted on the stator instead of the normal mounting flange

i need you guys opinion what is the best solution.

1) hallsensors outside, 17.14 degrees spaced
the magnetic field is sensed through the rotor can.
this is the only option with adjustable timing
sensor colossus outside1 (1).jpg
sensor colossus outside2 (1).jpg
sensor colossus outside3 (1).jpg

2) hall sensors inside, 17.14 degrees spaced
the magnetic field is sensed at the side of the magnets, not sure if this will work.
sensor colossus inside 17.14deg (1).jpg

3) hall sensors inside, 120 degrees spaced
same as 2) only different spacing of the halls
sensor colossus inside 120deg (1).jpg

what do you think.

I need a "hall tester" to test the inside mounting method
just a little circuit with an LED, but i dont know how to make it.
does anybody know how to make one?

Niels

You will get a cleaner signal from the back of the can instead of the side, but both will work. I would prefer them on the side for space reasons and to keep them out of harms way a bit better.

the signal from the end will be very flaky, I would go with outside ( this works and works well ) the 17.14 degrees also will work well ( its what I am using ) BUT this spacing do not run the motor in reverse  so it looks like 60 or 120, the foot print of 60 is not to bad and will only require I little more wrap around the motor can. ( It would be very good if these motors can be reversed on the fly  )
