New Bosch drive system

Hey Miles, do you have anything you want me to take picture for you ? Or to ask ?
Tommorow im there so just ask

Lots of close-up pics from different angles would be nice.

I'm more interested in the Pinion gearbox [Hall A2, stand 113]. Perhaps you could get a price for that?

Also, say hello to Doug White on the ENO stand, for me. :)

In case anyone's interested, here's the patent for the Bosch drive: http://v3.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/originalDocument?CC=WO&NR=2010066511A1&KC=A1&FT=D&date=20100617&DB=EPODOC&locale=en_EP

NO PROBLEM, I AM ON IT !

monday morning , everybody check picts and prices i got here :) psssst....this is undercover ES covredge ...:) :)

I wonder if there will be any 750-1500 watt drives for off road ?

A cannondale semi recumbent with drive would be nice ...

:)

It sounds like it won't be easy to get hold of the drive, separately... "The new push assist will be exclusively shipped to OEMs; no upgrade kits are planned." Ref: http://www.bosch-ebike.com/en/downloads/PI7066.pdf

This sounds similar to the Aprilia Enjoy, Giant Lafree and Panasonic pedelec type systems, but with the benefit of a speed sensor.

its not only this...
compared to the panasonic-drive it realy powers the shaft were the pedals are mounted (don´t know how to name it in English)

the Panasonic-systems needs a extra pinion, which is small as well... (11 or 12 teeth)
that means: a lot of wear to the chain and the pinion, dirt, ...

the Bosch-Systems does not has a additional pinion, the power goes directly to the shaft were the pedal and the big wheel for the chain is mounted..
perfekt

here a picture of another combilation:

Hi Kraeuterbutter,

I think you mean sprocket (or cog), rather than pinion... [If you're in doubt about English terms, do a search on Google images :) ]

The advantage of driving the chain directly is that it requires less reduction from motor speed, of course.

who will be first to get one of these and try an uprated motor ?

Wouldn't be easy to fit it into a frame either. Buying it with a bike and either replacing the controller or the controller and the motor would be much easier and admittedly much more expensive .

I like that too. Thanks for posting it.

It drives the crank using gears? Thats mainly (except for possibly a small loss of efficiency) an ease of implementation advantage which would be huge for Matt with a 4 turn Astro 3210. Not so much for Bosch developing a custom 250 watt system of integrated components. So from a users point of view I don't think that invalidates any of Kraeuterbutter's points.

Now I'm curious. What's the "Pinion gearbox"? Link please?

here another bike from another German manufactor:

here a video of the cannondale concept-bike you maybe already have seen:

here how the bosch looks like inside:

seems to have beveled gears at first stage for quietness
and also a relativly high reduction with that 2 stages

hmm.. of course you will loose the assist-features (torque-dependent assist) by doing that

250Watt the 25km/h version
and there will also come a faster version, with i bet 300 or 350Watt (maybe even 500Watt (??))
well: 500Watt for a drive that uses the gears is in my opinion anyway too much (drains the batteries too fast, too strong from feeling)

Now I'm curious. What's the "Pinion gearbox"? Link please?
that was maybe one of the coolest things shown on the Eurobike 2010 !

(the English version of the page)

in short: 18 gears (!!!! no overlapping gears)

but: it will not be on the market so soon..
and: it will most likely be costing more than a Rohloff Speedhub
German engineering, what else to say ? ;)

nice bike...
this, combined with a motor would be killer...
maybe something like the Gruber-Assist, small, light, hidden in the lower tube of the frame, working together with the 18-gears-gearbox

the lowertube is mostly bigger in diameter than the shaft of the seat, so the "Gruber-assist"-like drive could have more diameter for more power, maybe 250Watt instead of only 100Watt like the gruber Assist.. and: lower rpm: it should be possible to make it much more silent too...

that would be dreambike for me ;)

I agree...hear hear

Great.

Another useless 250w/25kmh system.

Completely pointless at that power level, unless you are disabled.

And it's already illegal here as it is too powerful

the able have the use of arms, legs and other appendages. the disabled do not. if any thing the disabled need even higher powered transport as most would be unable to assist the motor in any way.

i consider statement insulting and ill concieved.

Czech test here of the Haibike: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rebelbike.com%2Findex.php%3Fclanek_detail%3Dtrue%26id_clanek%3D902

I like the way they put the motor on top of the frame for protection. Nice to start with a blank slate I guess. Although Cannondale uses the Bosch and missed this feature it seems. Pricing 3500usd - 4600usd which is about a grand higher than BionX equipped EU spec bikes so it makes me wonder how much a Bosch system is selling for OEM?
