Hi guys ,this is my 1st thread here, been reading here for past few weeks and ready to begin this new hobby.

Love reading everyone's Builds and looking forward to getting great advice !

1. My first build will be a Single Motor Skateboard.
2. Like to reach approx 25 mph. For use on Mostly on flat roads, but would still like enough torque for a hill.
3. My Weight 165 lbs.

So this is Part 1 ,... MOTOR Choice

From what I have been reading so far (Turnigy 6364 245KV) seems like a good choice ??

...Opinions,... Experience Welcome , thanks Guys!

Get a Tacon Big Foot 160 before they sell out.

...That is basically the same motor as the Turnigy ?

There's no one right motor choice, that should be obvious.

But since the vesc is here, it makes sense to avoid go with the that, and 8-12s battery. In fact, that's a bigger decision and more expensive than the motor.

Ditto! These are great motors for the price. Definitely if your going single. My friend is 230lbs and this motor moves him around fine with 2 to 1 gearing.(20t on motor and 40t on 83mm wheels)

About 44T if using HTD 5mm pitch. Anymore would be a bit too close 44T is still close.

Was thinking of putting 15T 36T , on a single 6364-245 setup with 83mm wheels?
8-10s ?

That would work. You'll have a little more torque at 2.4 to 1. But if your running 8 - 10s you'll still have a pretty good top speed also. I'm sure if you search a little you'll be able to find a post with the proper way to calculate your top speed.

I did Calculate using CalcRC, dont know how accurate it is ?, ...but using 245KV, 15T, 36T, 9s(32v), 83mm wheel, came to 32mph  ??

Would going down to 14T be to small ??

That's probably close to accurate. Here's another calculator that seems to work well: http://toddy616.blogspot.com/2013/07/el ... lator.html if you want a second opinion. 14t would work also. You'd roughly loose about 2mph on your top speed, but gain more torque.

I have been swapping motors regularly, from a Turnigy 6374 192kv to a 6364 245kv on a single drive setup using 6s

I have also tried 20T/40T.... 15T/36T & 14T/32T gearing, using anything lower than the 20T/40T i get really bad belt slip.... the more teeth in mesh on the larger pulleys definitely helps.

The best single drive setup ive found is 20T/40T using the 6374 192kv motor, the 6374 is a larger motor and ive found it pulls me up hills a lot better, top speed is 20mph on 6s, 8s should be higher :D

Really ...Slipping?, have never Read about those problems ??..... with 15T, 36T ,.. what (Width belt) ??, what motor mount ??

I

Im only running a 9mm belt...its probably more to do with my size and the amount of hills around me, i know a lot of people run a 9mm belt with no problems, im waiting for some 15mm pulleys ive had made to use with SK3 motors, hopefully i will be able to run my 32T/14T ratio with a 15mm belt.

Ive had the belt slip using ADs mount and DIYs welded mount, i dont think its anything to do with the mounts, there both solid, i think it was more to do with the smaller pulleys and my weight, 36T/15T was better but still slipped under heavy braking and acceleration.

Using 20/40T i can run 80% brakes instead of 60% and i don't have to ride around feathering the throttle :D

Ok,... i have a few questions Jake:

1- Did you resolve your motor and or speed issues yet ? (read your thread)
2- Which motor do you prefer and why ?
3- I want to use 15 mm wide also ,...you had someone make the 15mm pulleys for you specifically ?
4- With 20T, 40T, what wheel size you use and what speed do you reach?

Thanks jake !
