I've got a Q100 and want to lace it to the existing rim on my bike (keep a consistent look). The bike uses a 26" rim with Double Walled Alloy, 36H with CNC Machined Brake Surface and 14G Stainless steel spokes. (This is a quote from the manufacturer. Not certain what specific rim it is.)

I've been through the forums and have seen conflicting advice. My guess is that the 12G spokes are required for a heavier hub motor... not certain.

Anyway, appreciate any feedback.

My feedback is NO to 12ga. Yes to 13/14ga butted Sapim.

Q100 is not a heavy motor, 14g is fine.

I ran my q100 in a 700c rim with 14g spokes for a year @ 750watts and the wheel never needed trying.

A wheel is only as good as it's builder.

I've done all mine with 13g. I think that you'll need washers for 14g.

Which brings us back to why I suggest 13/14ga butted spokes for motor wheels. Of course, a small motor Q100 might handle 14ga spoke heads fine - that I don't know.

Ideally, we would be able to source 13/15/14ga double butted spokes but for now single butted 13/14ga is how I roll in lieu of spoke head washers. Washers aren't necessarily a bad thing, just something I'm not that familiar with and it's easy enough to source 13/14ga butted Stainless Sapim spokes.

Roll on....
