Security for ebike

I use this. Xena XZZ6L. Small, loud, sensitive, automatic, and still works in the heavy rain, or at -30 in the winter.
Add a small, hidden GPS tracker, and you have the best security, without the weight and size of any D-lock.

I have a thread on a motorcycle alarm that has a remote that will let you know that somebody has moved your bike silent with pager or a alarm or both and some other opions. 148.00usd.

i picked up one of these and it works as stated. very loud, quite sensitive and only $9.29.

the only down side to that is...if the guy knows what he is doing then all he need is to remove the disc brake :(

. . . which he will do in the comfort of his own home, cause he picked up your bike and threw it in his truck while you were getting coffee.

well if i were to steal a bike then first I wouldnt go for ebike(cant sell + likely to have hidden GPS) but then if i do, i would have prepared at least simple bike tools incase of removing wheel or something quick.

This is the alarm I use for my Cruise E-bike: http://www.amazon.com/Motorbike-Alarm-Security-Bicycle-Moped/dp/B006BRO8EA

Don't be fooled by the price. It actually works! If someone touches your bike it gives quick beeping warnings! If someone continues to mess with your bike it goes off like a loud car alarm. However, you should use the alarm with a lock. This way if a thief was trying to pick your lock the alarm would draw too much attention.

In either case, it will scream 120 db non stop from the moment he touches it. Then, I can take a cab and follow the tracker with my phone, that is if he could manage to escape before I got out of the coffee. When people had triggered the alarm touching the bike by mistake, they jumped a step back, shocked by the noise and covered their ears with both hands.

Then, rui_fujino is right. Someone had his road bike stolen last summer, while it was locked on a post 5 ft away from mine.

I've seen this alarm as well I think I'll pick it up why not so cheap!! Sensitivity level is really good from what I've seen.
Definitely backing up with at least one lock.
Having a pager just seems like a huge plus for me. Hopefully I make it back to bike before its goner

(moderator edit: merged your duplicate threads. please only start one thread on a topic.)

Hmm, the idea of that second one with the alarm with pager built into the lock is a really good idea, I have to wonder about the battery life, but that's just a minor consideration.

The pagers are a must have IMHO, a noise maker isn't that much of a deterrent IMHO, most people are so used to them, and I seriously doubt that anyone would stop a thief, so best to have something that just lets you know so you can run out and stop them yourself.

That DX one sounds pretty amazing for just $10, but I wonder how much range the pager has?

I bought this one for $80 about a year ago:

Here is my post about it's performance so far, though I haven't used it that much since I didn't keep the fairing I built with it on my bike, I am installing it on my current one.

I must say that I am skeptical about some that don't allow you to connect them to a significant power source, and I would trust one that is designed to attach to a 12V power source more than ones with just a few AA's or AAA's for longevity and range of the pager.

What do you guys do who park your bike in a crowded bike stand area that will have your bike maybe get moved in order for another person to park their bike? Sounds like any device that rings will be an annoyance to others.. I think gps tracking is the only viable thing when using a bike in a school environment. But doesn't that only work if the bike is still outdoors?

Agreed, and lets not forget the kids that start playing with the alarm and setting it off intentionally and wearing down the battery!

That's why it's nice to have a "silent" alarm and just have the pager tell you if there is a problem.
