Monkey proof 1st ebike build parts list recipe? 88.8v

I'm willing to compromise :). How about this for criteria in order of most important, to least important?: 1. No less thn 48v 2. Reliable w/ least maintenance 3. Quiet 4. as small as possible 5. as light as possible (Given the above criteria)

John, thank you for your input and same goes to everyone who posted great information  . Regarding "easy," I was planning to Tig weld a good mounting solution to the frame for the mid-drive motor because I've been Tig Welding sing 2009 and am proficient at it 8) . So, now I'm...

    Inexpensive source for an oscilloscope?

Ideally, I want a portable oscilloscope with its own screen, no less than 100 mhz, more than 1 channel, capable to generate PWM signal, and has the ability to connect to a computer via USB so I can view things in higher resolution. Does anything like this exist? Also, is my understanding...

It seems like a mid-mounted motor with internally geared hub on the rear wheel will suit my preference the best. This way I can run lower volts (maybe 48v?) with the mid-mount motor and take advantage of bike gears, and retain better overall bike balance. What do you guys think of retrofitting...

Hub motor with integrated 5-speed IG

This is GREAT news, so thanks for sharing it :) . Are there any updates on this integrated 5-speed direct-drive hub motor? I went to their website, but didn't see any new info. Also, does a internally geared hub motor (like BMC) with multiple gear-speeds exist?

    Geared multi-speed hub motors?

As I'm researching component combinations for my first ebike build, I was curious if any geared-brushless hub motor exists that have different-speed based gears inside the hub motor itself. I prefer the no-drag and efficiency benefit of the geared motors like the BMC, but if they had a gearing...

    Modifying Norco frame.. need advice

I've read that Norco fixed something in the rear-triangle design in the 2003 and up models. Even if the frame is old, I was under the impression the bearings can be replaced with new ones and that should make everything solid again, no? What are your thoughts on using a mid-mount drive motor...

    Modifying Norco frame.. need advice

Your build is my favorite I've seen so far. I like how you installed everything cleanly in the frame, it looks awesome, great job! How is it handling on trails and jumps? Do you find the rear wheel dropping much because of the hub motor weight? Also, how well do you think a mid-drive motor...

Best FS Bikes w/ frame space for batteries?

I've seen some y-shaped looking full suspension (fs) mountain bike frames. So, have any of you found similar fs bikes w/ large oval or boxy shaped frame tubes that have enough space to fit some batteries in the frame "tubes" while still being able to handle fun trail riding? It seems like it...

Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

surely some company must make a pressure valve of some sort that only vents air and filters out any fluid right? Afterall it's 2013 and there are many types of valves used in many industries, like petroleum, etc. I'm a little surprised nothing has been implemented yet considering the oil...

Monkey proof 1st ebike build parts list recipe? 88.8v

You guys have given me a lot to think about, so thanks! 8) Since it's my first project, I'm now considering a mid-drive unit located near the pedaling hub instead of putting the motor in the wheel. It seems like it would be easier to retrofit a bike to this mid-drive setup instead of making...

*monkey proof = easy to use, least amount of tinkering to get working, and reliable.* Hi Endless-Sphere ebike community! :) I'm inspired by all of your accomplishments to try to build my first ebike based on a full suspension mountain bike. My only experience in electronics is basic car...

All I want is a Balancer!

Hey guys, just curious, can that new Linear balancer work with Lipoly batteries? The presenter only mentioned Lithium Ion & Lipo4. It looks like a great balancer concept! 8)
