I just use a standard decent quality 9 speed chain, I think shimano with kmc quick links or whoever makes them, I bought a bunch. I've never broken a chain and I'm well north of 250 and do a lot of harsh offroading with my BBSHD.

Thanks for the encouragement. I did order a junk controller off of ebay to dissect and it looks fairly simple, so I ordered some long lead time shunts a while back, should arrive any day now. I suspect I may have to remove my bms, and maybe I'll add a fuse if not already one there.

Another vote for BBSHD in a good used mountain bike. Big advantage to BBSHD is that the bike transmission changes the gearing for the motor. My stock controller BBSHD gets up to 35mph fairly quickly and easily goes a half hour at full throttle with my 17.5ah bottle mount batteries. You...
