Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Hi All, Cool stuff. I hope you find time to collect data, CD. I sometimes manage heat in electronic assemblies at work and have some thoughts... Air flow through (or around) the sinks will play a major part in their efficacy. The pictured implementation (a dense array) might result in...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Doh! I was making a basic, goofy mistake. Apologies to everybody! I'll be more careful in future (or just go back to lurking!) Thanks for all the info Cyborg. You're kind and patient to re-introduce it. MLC

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Really great video, CowardlyDuck. That's quite a back yard. Jealous... Great conversation too. I still get the feeling this conversation tends towards "which is better" (4t vs 5t). It's clear that one is no better than the other. Its all about your application. If you need much more than...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Great conversation. Thought I'd get into the mix. First, I took my 5T 1500W Leaf for its first ride tonight. Big, fat, huge grin. First time I touched the throttle, the front end came up (yes). Max speed is exactly what the numbers from this thread and the simulator indicate it should be...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Hi Cowardlyduck, Just wanted to say that I don't mean to imply anything negative about your build. This is where I'm coming from... I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that no-load max rpm is a characteristic of a motor. It should be very similar between motors of the same make (and...

...and confirmed with real-world results. Measured 10.2 Kv, at two different voltages, on a brand new Leaf 1500w 5t last night. (8 or 9 posts back) MLC

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

...or CowardlyDucks system is running a little slow. If my math is right, it should be running about 739 rpm (no load) at 56 v (56 x 13.2). That's about 85kph (close to the sim). Your numbers say you're running ~609 rpm... ...and 68 volts/4T/24" tire should give about 103 kph (close to sim)...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

A few more data points from a newbie, 5 turn, 1500w Leafbike hub build... Note: Using the CA3 for measurement; set tire circumference to 1666mm and units to kph so CA3 would read out rpm (kphx10=rpm). No load, max rpm, WOT: 53.8 volts / 547 rpm / 80 watts (10.2 Kv) 47.9 volts / 487 rpm / 67...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Wow. Beautiful bike, Alex. I'm not posting anymore pics of mine....embarrassing  . I'm playing around with the Leafbike 1500W I just received. Here's some data points for general consumption: - 5T Max No Load RPM: I ordered the 5 turn. I calculated the no load max RPM to be...

Does anyone have experience of controller tester units?

Thanks DanielRLee and Tek! (Tek: Yes; I definitely plan to adapt the tester to my final config.) I agree that this is a useful tool. Though simple, it can quickly direct the trouble shooter in the right direction. I'll share what I observed while testing a Leafbike 1500W stock kit with this...

Does anyone have experience of controller tester units?

Hi, Tester question for those with some experience... Just hooked up my tester to a leafbike 40A controller (got the full conversion kit with the 1500 watt hub) and the led's do light in a rotary pattern but two at a time. The "manual" (piece of paper) says that's bad for the controller. Any...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Wow. I did want and think I'd get some ramping/response adjustment from the v2. And good point about just removing what I don't use. Lesson learned. Maybe I can work something out (package on way). Otherwise I might be adding a v3 to my B-day/Xmas/FathersDay/JustBecauseIDeserveIt - lists...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Really great feedback guys (non-gender specific). Thanks! Kodin - Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. See below regarding temp sensing... Teklektik - Thanks for the good advice. You're probably right about the CA3 but alas I pulled the trigger on the CA2. My thinking is that I...
