It should do the job, the 48v will have some head room so your 52v pack shouldnt be an issue. You will need resistor going between the two large lugs (battery terminals) and a diode across the switching poles (the two small posts)
On mine im using a 10k resistor and a 200v 3amp diode.

Of course this can be done, but you would be better off spending a couple of bucks on a new BMS specific to your task. If your going to build a battery (not a cheap process) do you want to risk it by skimping on using a BMS youve desoldered from another pack?
This might be a stupid question but it was the first thing that came to mind...are both VESC's running the same firmware? Ive had two that ive purchased at the same time, that were running different firmware.
