jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Sweet! I can see it will be a great aesthetic match as well as meeting your goals of wider tyre & allowing more tyre choices. That Samco is one expensive Buell

High end motors - priced out of existence?

Maybe it's time to do just that 8) Even if it ends up being a few % less efficient and/or ~10% heavier than a highly refined design, it would be nice to have control over the costs and lead time with a homebuilt one.

jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Great weekend report, thanks for the writeup. The fact that Chris can hand over the keys to a 700 Volt racebike for the rider to charge and operate solo is a real testament to the good design and construction! I'm stoked to hear racing is getting tight and close with swapping leads, this...

    E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Ouch that is a touch lesson. Yep, backing out the lever adjust all the way is a necessary pre-bleed step, otherwise you have preload on the plunger and can't fully fill the system with enough fluid.

Magura MT5e (Hydraulic Brakes) for E-Bikes and Pedelecs

Magura has been making ebrake hydro's for several years. Typically they are done in production runs for OEMs only and not sold through retail channels cause the demand just hasn't been there yet. Looks like that's changing which is cool to see. I've been running the MT5 front and MT2 rear for...

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

That's called 'spoke pairing' or 'paired holes' when pairs of spokes sit closer together to each other instead of all having equidistant spacing. Yes, they can be as strong as 1, 2 or 3 cross. Magic Pie has narrow flange spacing which is a downside but at least they gave paired spoke holes...

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

No, 1 cross is plenty with a large diameter hub. 2 or more cross would likely cause more problems than provide benefit. I'm assuming your hub is 200mm in diameter or larger. If so, than the bracing angles of 1 cross with that rim and hub will be similar to 3 cross in a normal bike wheel.

    Welcome to the Electric Horsemen

Beautiful, I think you've executed your vision superbly on this build. p.s. I like how you casually have that NYX frame in the background...just another spare Ebike part in willows workshop 8)

    Tack weld BMC/MAC Clutch

No worries, just keep in mind the motor will always be spinning afterward the mod so the extra drag from it will cause you to drain the battery a bit faster.

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

Ok, so you have reasonably large holes drilled into your hub flange (enough to fit 11 or 12g) and reasonably small holes in your rim (only big enough for ~14g). Your eyeleted rim holes will make wheel building nice but give less tolerance for poor spoke/nipple alignment. I think your rim hole...

    Tack weld BMC/MAC Clutch

I've seen it done and work reliably for some several thousand km. Your plastic/composite gears and key on the shaft will be the next weakest links. Just take it to someone with a beefy welder, 3min job

UAV pilot travels with lipo in commercial jet, catches fire

Thats a good point and the user base is really rising fast. Endless-Sphere readers are probably some of the best educated lithium ion users out there, best equipped to appreciate the risks and act appropriately based on them. I hope others will follow suit.
